No tech package - possible to get song title/artist from radio?

On my E46, I used to get the song title/artist when RDS was enabled. With the F30, I have RDS enabled, but I am not able to figure out how to display the song title/artist playing on a given radio station. If this is available, can someone explain how it's done?

Thanks,

The old E39 got the RDS title/artist display too, and I haven't figured out how to do it on my noline non-tech radio. The satellite radio does work OK though.

I figured it out.

Basically, when on the screen where you have the list of stations, click the "Option" button by the idrive controller and the select "Display Station Info". That throws up a screen with just that single station and displays the album name, song title, and artist.

Really happy I found it. When I did some googling I came across many posts where people wrongly assumed that that BMW had dropped that feature.

It's a shame it won't stay on that screen when the car is turned off and back on.

I really like this car, but the radio interface is pretty bad.

Likewise, the automatic climate control system always activates and Driving Experience Mode resets to "Comfort" when the vehicle is restarted. Very annoying!

Yeah it's a pain. Also every time on startup, it must show the "Accept" screen...how many times do I have to read that warning?!

The standard audio system supports decoding Program Service Data text for HD Radio stations - artist, song, and album:

However, Artist Experience images (using the XHDR frame in PSD) are supported only with the uplevel unit included with Tech Package or Navigation system option.

Great info, thanks. The old rolling display worked better than new separate screen, which is not needed for non-tech radio without artwork. BTW the accept button goes away after 15 seconds or so.

Follow the instruction I gave above. You also have to have RDS enabled under radio settings.
