Patch

Agreed a run flat can be properly patched from the in side, $25-50, I've had it done no problems. Problem solved.

Did you read the tire warranty that came on the DVD in your owners manual packet?

Goodyear covers road hazard for the first 12 months. What does Pirelli cover?

HELP) run flat tire with nail (1st post newbie)

Repair the tire...I took a punctured LS2 to Goodyear shop for warranty eval...they patched under warranty...told me people are idiots if they just replace the tire...only if you actually "run on flat" do you need replacement.

Discount Tire/Pep Boys/Big O/Goodyear etc, like who?

I would really like to know what major tire shop would actually patch a Run Flat Tire, give you an invoice or put their name on it?

Push the issue with the warranty. BMW will not patch a tire but there is a warranty. Call Pirelli and they will give you the closest authorized dealer/repair center. They will likely patch it for free.

Had a similar issue on my X5. Dealer completely denied there was a tire warranty at all over the phone as I was ACTUALLY holding it in my hand. I got it patched elsewhere but the dealer ended up replacing it for free.

Just patch it. I had this happen to me a while back, take into consideration that you will need to go to a ma and pa tire shop to get this done as most "commercial" places will not patch a runflat. I never had any issues as it was patched and worked for the full life of the tire tread.

X-Men is right. If it were me I would patch the sucker. There is nothing mysterious about a RFT. IF the sidewall has not been compromised and not damaged and if the nail hole is in the tread portion then an INSIDE patch is normally used just like with a regular tire. My son-in-law was at Cosco by the way and they said he had two nails in two of his tires and they were now crap and to get new ones. I sent him to KalTire who put inside patches on them and he is not having any problems. Patches for flat tires is like, a part of car history. IMHO however, I have used regular tires on my last two Bimmers with a Gunk tire repair pressure can in the trunk in case the pressure is too low to make it to a tire repair station. Usually your TPMS will warn you. However, no tire repair outfit will give you any guarantee when fixing a RFT so it is YOUR decision.

OK .... so I don't know if you had time to read your Pirelli tire warranty on your owners manual packet DVD so I read mine for you:

You are covered under the road hazard warranty from Pirelli.

BMW dealer could care less and will disavow. Call Pirelli.

Road Hazard Policy for Run Flat Tires Only
If a Run Flat tire becomes unserviceable due to workmanship or materials
anomalies or road hazard injury during the initial warranty period, which is
one year from the date of original retail purchase of the vehicle or purchase
of replacement tires (purchase receipt required) or within the first 2/32 of
the original usable tread, whichever occurs first, the tire will be replaced with
the same or comparable tire at no charge for the tire to the owner. After the
initial warranty period, if a Run Flat tire becomes unserviceable due to workmanship
or materials anomalies or road hazard injury, the owner must pay
the cost of a comparable new Pirelli brand or PTNA private brand replacement
tire on a pro-rata basis. The authorized Pirelli dealer will determine the
cost by multiplying the percentage of the original usable tread worn by the
current dealer selling price. The owner must pay for any associated service
charges, including mounting and balancing of the tire. This Road Hazard
Policy is not a warranty. PTNA does not warranty that a Pirelli tire will not fail
due to road hazard and does not authorize any person, including authorized
Pirelli dealers, to make such a warranty.

Let me know how that works out. I tried that with mine for a bubble in another tire that I had and it was essentially discounted, not replaced for free. I was actually able to get a better deal from Tirerack than the discounted warranty rate bridgestone gave me.

just got off the phone with Goodyear tires, they DO, CAN and WILL patch a run flat tire. looks like ill be making that trip. Although, I'm still going to look at the manual and see if the dealer was d**cking me around and not letting me know about the replacement thing from Pirelli and trying to make a buck for offering me the insurance and trying to make me buy a new tire.

That's why u sell them.

if u wanna save the most use the crapflats till they are almost too bad to turn in with the car, the find some used rims and put proper tires on, swap back before turn in

that saves the most money

Yes, it was simple. I called the tire company directly and opened a claim. They gave me a claim number to take to one of the approved tire shops, then from there they determined that the bubble was road hazard caused and gave me a discount of 30% off the tires. But the 30% was only off of the cost from the company directly ( not wholesale ) and with the discount it was going to cost more to get the tires directly from tire rack..
But your tires are a lot newer. Check out here for warranty details..
