I THINK the late model changes can indeed play MP3's, and I am sure later MASK's and I believe all CCC's can play them

I also learned new batteries must be registered.

Also learned:
- You can change the oil filter from the top of the engine bay.
- The steering wheel sometimes needs reset for it to go all the way up after stopping, e.g. move it all the way out, in, up and down and then re-positions to desired position.
- Electronics in the bottom of the trunk should be manually re-positioned to the sides in order to avoid upwards of $15K in replacement electronics.
- I can set the cruise control at 100mph and expect a worry free, smooth ride.
- The windshield washer fluid reservoir is known for leaking--nothing some minor maintenance can't fix.
- That object hanging from the roof in the middle is a interior motion sensor?

Yup, MP3 playback off the DVD works in my 2007 530i .

In case anyone wants to know, I burned the data DVD using xfburn in Linux.

This is correct. The changer doesn't have the firmware to be capable of playing them.

My 06 CCC isn't capable. It can be coded for it yes. I think the standard changed on the CIC units, along with adding the usb and aux ports. Which sadly I don't have either.

How can it be coded if it isn't capable

i.e. it's capable, just isn't allowed to by default

AUX port is a very easy add-on. You should consider adding it

The head unit is capable. The changer is just that, a slot changer/reader which isn't. I don't know this positively but I have done heavy research as this what my intention, to the point of purchasing the changer only to find this out.

I would love the aux port but iffy about pulling my baby apart! :-) I have been debating about having the dealership do it, they wanted $250 for cable, installation and coding. Sadly, I don't have an indy in my area I trust.

Gotcha--yeah some of the plastic parts can be a little iffy on getting them out in one piece if they haven't been removed in a while. The wood trim across the dash is also tough to get started without chipping any corners or anything

I hate to say it, but if they'd come down to more like $200 I'd probably let them do it

The radio presets aren't just for the radio. They can be programmed to call the wife, banker, or boyfriend. Just bring up that person in iDrive, and instead of hitting Call, press and hold a preset button. I suspect this works for all kinds of iDrive functions, now that I think about it, e.g. checking oil level and other hard-to-find functions. I still need to play with it a bit.

That space in the trunk is for installation of the cd changer.

Probably been mentioned before, but the center console arm rest on the driver side can slide forward. Much more comfortable. Thought I broke it the first time it happened about 6 months into ownership lol.

The reverse lights suck. Searching for an upgrade.

I can't turn the outside lights completely off with the car running. Anyone know how to do that?

I learned many things:

1) I can spend most of a Sunday reading a single post (read all 32 pages today)

2) I now know several neat 'tricks' for my car, thanks!

My contribution:

I have the only BMW (per two different dealerships) WITHOUT the rack mounting things on the roof. Every other BMW I've seen has the four little pre-made cutouts you can screw a rack into. I asked two dealerships why I don't have those and both said they didn't know and they hadn't seen a car without them before.

I read your post and and it made me wonder about the 550i I bought about a week ago. Ran out to the garage, wtf, I don't have them either. My e39 540i had them!?

So much for my Thule roof rack from the 540i...

How about having the wide band weather channels? Came in real handy while I was navigating ice and snow storms in the Carolinas with my 06 530xit.

The weather band was coded in on my 2012 E92.
