Thumbs up I parked my GT next to a little car.

I think it was Titanium Silver vs my Glacier silver.

Was that a 3 series?? Ha!!

T he GT just looks tougher. I actually like the back end better than the sedan. The lower hoodline and smaller grills of the sedan I actually prefer....

Great pics! I'm going to post this every time I see it, but I'm jealous that your state does not require front license plates. That 2014 GT looks great! I like that BMW took away the chrome plate over the back of the trunk.

I think a collection of comparo pics with GTs show the GT in context and just may change some minds.

Awesome cars, but the 528 looks smoother and classier than the GT. Gt kinda looks un normal lol... IDK If anyone has ever used a "fish eye" effect on a photo...Kind of looks like taking a around magnifying class and keeping it away a foot from your eye and looking through it at the object, in this case it would be looking at the 5 series. But everyone obviously has their "own" taste, that's why bmw is the best, they bring you so many options. Personally, I think the newly introduced 4series has the nicest body style out of all the series.

I just looked at these pics for the 10th time. I don't get the hate of the GTs styling. Height aside I think it is better looking than the sedan... The tail lights are a better shape and flow better. The front air dam/lower bumper is absolutely cooler looking and I like the headlight shape better. The only thing the sedan wins on is height. The GT would look better with a lower hoodline and a lower roofline. BUT I'm not sure I would be willing to give up interior headroom to make that happen... Put the GT next to an X6 and then you can see where BMW went wrong - with the X6 that is!

We actually x-shopped the GT and X6. I actually like the exterior styling of the X6 with its wider visual appearance and more aggressive front. For us the X6 lost out for a few key reasons: we were looking for a more comfortable ride for long distance trips and the X6 was too "firm" for our expected use (yes even in comfort mode...go ahead, call me an old codger!), the comfort seats did not feel as comfortable, only the driver gets the ventilated/active seat, "climbing" in to the X6 would have worn on us, and significantly less usable cargo capacity.

When we choose to unload the Audi the X6 and other "sportier" options will get another look, but I can definitely visualize two GT's in the stable ;-)

I think GT has very similar front to that of 7 series.

I always thought the F10 never looked as aggressive as an F07, especially with M-Sport. However, with this comparo, I can now full say the GT's hood, roofline, and rear trunk need to be lowered immediately, otherwise it just looks too huge compared to the F10. If everything is lowered, it would look a lot sleeker and sexier than an F10 straight from the factory. We all know the GT has quite a few perks over the F10, but it shouldn't ruin all of its looks for a little practicality. They can lower the seating position, it is still a sedan after all, but BMW needs to lower the hood, roofline, and trunk. My H&R drop helps, but BMW could do a much better job from stock. Otherwise, the GT looks mean you should lower it Ernest

Those of us that 'get it', realize that the GT was built the way it is for a reason...it is a great long-distance car. If you lowered the seats, the hood and the roof, you'd lose it's reason for existing. While looks may get you to buy a car, it's the functionality that brought me over...I really don't care what it looks like nor do I care what others think. If I did, I'd buy something else.

FWIW, lowering the hood is hard with the European pedestrian rules. One reason I bought the car is so I didn't have to fall into it OR climb up to it. Lowering the seats is not a good option, nor is lowering the roofline - headroom both front and rear would suffer, making it into a not so great car for carting around full-sized people.

Ernest,

Some questions about your 2014 that I found strange in my father's new car.

Is the center console trim in your car near the shifter wood grain, or is it a shiny black material with subtle sparkles? My father's is the black material - it does not match the other wood grain in the car.

Do you have a compass in your rear view mirror? His does not, but it does have the reset button underneath the mirror.

Do you have 1 or 2 temp adjustment knobs for the two vents on the dash below the nav screen? My father's has 1, but all the pictures I've seen of the 2014's have 2.

Black. The GT is like that. It's the ultra dark black motif … same as the dash.

No Compass

Two temp adjustments. If the Sync button is pressed, the two are tied together.

I think he's referencing the dials that are for 4-zone climate control...the ones located on either side of the door lock/unlock in the center of the vents. As of 2014 I believe that is only a special order item for NA market... I could be incorrect on that statement. Most photos you see will be showing the European version and typically have the disclaimer stating so at the bottom.

Thanks - my father's car looks the same. I think the center console trim is kind of strange. It looks fine, but I can't help but think it's a cost cutting measure as opposed to wood grain.

This is off topic but I don;t think you can say that. It's always been that way so there's no evidence of cost cutting. If I recall, the super black dashboard was an intentional design element. They wanted it to be like high end audio/video equipment. The center console strikes me as an extension of that element.

We really are no comparison to your weather, but by our standards it's been nasty and down right wacky with 2 ice storms, broke a couple record lows, they actually put down a sandy salt mixture multiple times this winter, and extreme temperature swings as of past 1.5 months. I washed the GT last week and discovered all kinds of new gashes, marks and chips A prime example is today: it was 84 yesterday and today it started out at 44 with 22mph sustained winds and gusts to 40 . It's not bad now at 54 but dropping a few degrees from freezing tonight.

Btw, Ernest the GT looks like an ogre next to that 4 series in your pics. A very pretty ogre, like Fiona from Shrek. ;-)

Well the snow arrived on schedule and from the weather map it will be here for quite awhile .....just another day where I am grateful for my x-drive and Michelin snow tires....

This winter has been bad for many places that normally 'suffer' like we do here and I have sympathy for those areas that are not equipped for it like we are (not bragging, just lamenting that we have to be). I only get sensitive when I hear the word 'cold' and realize the reference is to at least 30-40 degrees warmer than we are. 'Cool' I can accept but we will tell you when it is 'cold'.....(It's all relative anyway).

Agree with your 'ogre' reference on Ernest's picture.....

I made this thread after reading so many criticisms of the GT based not on seeing the car in person but alone in marketing/glamour shots. Many comments were made that the GT is one of those cars that when seen in person, looks much better. So when I can, I wanted to document the GT in perspective and in the wild compared to some of the sheet metal favs.

In the case of the 428, I think the GT underscores that the 4 series continues the tradition of luxury go-cart. To me, the 4 is bland and looks better in glamour shots than in person….like a JP car with nice front end. In contrast, I think the backend of the GT is like an big game cat ready to pounce while the 4 is like a dog dragging it's butt across the ground. Coincidently, a slightly gray haired fellow parked nearby in a Damask Red 3 series with Cinnamon interior. Sharp colors but I felt the car wasn't on par with the guy's stature. I like the big mean sporty aggressiveness of the GT on the outside and smooth fun ride in luxury on the inside. YMMV.

I encourage anyone to add photos to this collection. Even ones in snow.
