Smart Opener Retrofit

Hi everyone.
I would really like to retrofit smart opener trunk on my GT550 11''.
I have ordered allready those parts:
61 35 7 273 666 - 1piece
52 20 8 133 466 - 7 pieces
61 35 7 273 667 - 1 piece
61 35 7 373 991 - 1 piece

Till parts are arriving from Germany i get the latest Esys version with the latest psdzdata to be sure i can code my cr without any problem.
And now i have a problem to know what exactly i need to code to make it work.
On f10post a found this value:
Quote:
FRM 3000 SMART_OPENER_VERBAUT aktiv
I'm not sure if it is enough or do i need to make some extra coding or add new code to FA of my car.
And the most importatnt thing is from which SW version this feature starts to be availible.
Thanks

Not sure if this helps, but I have a 2012 550i GT with CA and I don't have the smart opener trunk. I've lost count how many times I look like an idiot trying to give the bottom of my bumper a swift kick right below the license plate. I keep hoping that one day it will miraculously appear.

My understanding is that you have this option included with comfort access, so I guess this must be an option included in 2013 GTs.

I can retrofit this option also in any E-Series with Comfort Access.

We have a loaded 2013 550i xDrive GT and although the manual says we can "kick" the boot open we cannot. Some in the US say they have it. I think most don't,

We do have Comfort Access

It is good for you but we're not from Romania.
A lot of people are telling that they need to replace FRM to make it work.

Mine is a 2014 and it's to the right of center over where the exhaust is. It usually takes 3 swipes and I always have to rub the bumper and hit the exhaust to make it go. Proximity detection is low.

Not sure how I would feel about paying for an option that requires me to brush my foot/pant leg on across a dirty bumper/exhaust tip....seems like a great idea in theory to trigger hatch opening.....

I can't imagine it being of much use in a snowy climate at least during snow season.

There is plenty of snow in Ohio right now and the foot opener on my GT works fine. There is no need to actually touch anything with your foot or leg, just pass your foot from side to side under the rear bumper and the boot opens. Do it again and it closes with a warning beeper. It's a handy feature when you have your hands full.

finished long ago (forgot to report))
works fine, either via direct kick or left-to-right movement
but had to change the FRM module to a newer one (from 2011-12 model)
and sorry, I do not have the diagram
actually, this system is a part of the comfort access option and if one does not have it so it looks expensive then

SInce this thread was revived, I want to amend my previous posts to say I was kicking under the wrong part of the number. It's actually in the center and works like a charm and is totally touch less. I'm a fan.

Do you have any details of the wiring ? I have a 2011 F10 with comfort access and no smart opener. From the parts diagrams I can see that I need the upper and lower sensor cables, a smart opener control until which also goes under the bumper and then according to you a more recent FRM module. But what about the cabling? The smart opener controller has three sockets. two will be for the upper/lower sensor cables but where did you connect the third socket to (which has three wires).
I found some pictures here but no details of the third cable (which has a red, yellow and brown wire)

The 3rd socket plugs into a factory wire harness. There are a few options; equipped with PDC's only, or with PDC's and the smart opener, or nothing at all (at least I've never seen one with the smart opener only).

The PDC only harness has 4 connectors and the SMO+PDC harness has 5 connectors. It's a relatively small harness that plugs plugs into the main body harness.

so do you think cars without smart opener will already have the plug there? normally the plugs and cables are only in place for the items that come from the factory. at least on my F10 there were plugs for the pdc but not smart opener. The plug would be there if your car came with smart opener but this thread is about smart opener retrofit.
I did the retrofit and ran a cable from the footwell module through the car, out to the rear bumper and then to the smart opener.
I posted retrofit instructions here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=835896

So I called BMW genius today and they confirmed that I have the kick option as I have the something Premium. But when I kick nothing happens! I just look like a clown kicking my car.

My MY did not have that feature, but others have said, once they figured out WHERE to move their leg, it works fine.

you could take off the panel under the bumper and have a look if the smart opener electronics are there. in this picture remove item #3, there are three bolts and six press fasteners holding it in place. then look through the hole. you can see the three cables going into the smart opener through the hole even if you don't have the bumper off. The DIY guide I posted will show you what it looks like with the bumper off.
