Sirius XM Discounted Fee

Called Sirius XM to activate my X3 service after the one year freebie from BMW. Guy told me that it would cost $180/year plus music royalty and NJ sales tax. I told him that I had received an offer for $86/year for the renewal- not true. Folks were chatting about the $86 annual renewal offer in an Acura forum- used to regularly visit there. He said he couldn't offer the $86/year fee. I told him I'd be canceling my service, so he transferred me to the cancellation group. Cancellation guy said there was no such offer on my X3. I said I'd be canceling my service then since I know it's available with other manufacturers of cars. He put me on hold and came back and agreed to the $86/year fee + Royalty for music and NJ sales tax; total for year is $103.

I then got the same deal for my son's Honda Accord for the year. I extended the Honda's subscription for 6 months earlier this year so I would have a December anniversary. I let my X3's subscription lapse for 4 days so I could have the exact same anniversary date.

The anniversary for my 5 Series is in October, 2014- and I'll let that lapse for 2 months or pay for 2 months so it'll sync up anniversary dates with the Accord and X3.

Billing with Sirius XM is a nightmare! Do not allow them to auto renew your credit card. Pay the $2 annual fee for calling in once a year to renew.

The discounted annual offer used to be $77/year. I payed that every year per car for 8 years. Need to go through the aforementioned verbal gymnastics each year. I made the mistake of auto renewing the first year and missed out on the discount. Sirius XM is very sneaky with their billing- no email, phone call or any other communication except the full rate fee shows up on one's credit card.

Satellite music quality is mediocre, and with all the HD FM radio stations available, satellite music quality pales in comparison. My wife and I like the variety offered and not having to listen to commercials on the music stations. Sports being available and television news stations are another big plus with satellite radio.

Sirius XM Discounted Fee

Good info thanks. We go through this every time our cable offer expires. Unfortunately with the cable company, you need to actually show up to drop off your box or they call your bluff.

I'm sure I'll be renewing. I couldn't imagine going without Stern. I can't say however, I ever use it for music. Pandora/Spotify does just fine there.

I hate this game. I just renewed a Porsche and went through the whole thing of trying to renew at some reasonable rate, only to have to transfer to the "cancellation" person before they offered me a decent deal. Since the new X3 has sat radio as well, the rep mentioned that if you have more than one receiver, "at least one has to be at the full rate." We shall see in another year...

Next time you renew try my tactics. You don't have to pay full rate for any car.

Nonsense. I have 2 (2012 X3, 2013 E350) X3 was renewed multiple times at the discounted rate and the E350 just renewed in Nov at discounted rate as well. Both 6 months at $25 plus tax. For the E350, I had to add traffic at $3 per month because it has great traffic info.

Sirius re-up at a discount

I also 'balked' at the standard renewal @ $150/yr + taxes and fees ... I also find that HD radio is fine but I also like the news and a few other commercial-free stations. So I didn't haggle them down to the 6 month price several have signed on for but in the end agreed to the $80-something price for one year subscription.

But geeeeese the fees, taxes, and royalties added on are absurd!

Love SiriusXM.... Ive had it since the very beginning. Yes they have had a modest price increase since they started up, and the royalty fees are in response to the music royalty board demanding more for the artists.

But come on guys... We all drive BMW's and you are complaining about an average of 15 bucks a month ??? I bet most of you have no problem paying $100 - $200 a month for cable TV.... Or even better, $200-$300 for your family cell phone bill ! LoL... Sorry, just trying to make a point.

The problem with the packages are they are looking to get the customer who doesn't actually go to the website and see what packages are available, so they default you to the most expensive one, which is the "Premier" (currently $18, or $12 with a multi radio discount) that package has so much content to listen to I would never get to listen to it all.

They have packages ranging from 10 to 18 so there is a price point for all tastes.

However, for the BMW I was able to transfer a Lifetime subscription that I purchased over 5 years ago on a honda for $75 bucks (I think I initially only paid around $350 or so for that lifetime). So if anyone out there has a lifetime call to transfer it to your new car. Best deal of All.

Now you have to take my comments with a grain of salt as I have 4 radios on my account and will never cancel. I feel its a reasonable price for the offering of ZERO commercials, never lose signal, has a ton of variety, and original content.

For us, we live in "no mans land NJ" between NYC, and Philly. Here if I cross town, I lose the NY FM stations and start to pick up Philly. So again for me, SAT radio was a blessing from the sky, Pun Intended!
