Just purchased '07 328xi

Hey everyone. I'm new to the forums here but always dreamed of owning a BMW. I was able to get a 2007 black 328xi with 77k miles...19 inch rims, sports package, stabilizer bar, injen intake, suspension drop. Bought it for a little over $13k--it has a clean carfax and only 1 owner. 6 spd manual is a blast to drive...anything I should be concerned about with this car. I got an extended warranty to take me to 102k miles--cost me $2800...worth it?

Pics attached...I think

Thanks,
Joe

AWESOME Looking ride! Congrats!

I have a 2007 328xi as well. Mine has 132k miles on the clock and has been a very reliable car... The most expensive maintenance so far has been the replacement of all 4 dampers in the last few weeks.. Other than that, it's been a great car.

Beautiful car. I had an '08 328xi and loved it. I have moved from that to a Z4 to my current ride and something I have had to be concerned about on all of them is getting speeding tickets. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the responses, I'm in love with it.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the extended warranty I bought?

It's fidelity gold package 2/24k

I drive 8-10k miles/year

Time will tell and to each their own when it comes to warranties.. I'm more of a pessimist.... My opinion has always been when trying to use extended warranties, that "it's not covered" is a common response... Plus it if IS covered, they still find a way to charge you for SOMETHING....Diagnostic fee, troubleshooting fee, etc, etc... I always avoid "the extended warranty" of everything I buy..... but hey, that's just me!

Great looking ride.
If you don't have service records from PO, maybe consider replacing water pump as preventative maintenance. They fail quite often around 60K on average.

Loving the black interior trim (Sadly I got wood and have to get them wrapped) also love the rims. Looks good man!

Our 2007 328xiT has been trouble free for over 100K miles except for an annoying failure to fill problem with tank venting. It was covered under warranty but the DMTL pump seems to be a weakness. Finding the pump on a parts warehouse website means that it must be a common replacement item like spark plugs and filters.

I too am not a fan of extended warranties and I keep my vehicles for the long term. The many computers and proprietary way that BMW keeps info secret bothers me most. They obviously want the recurring maintenance revenue business. The mechanical parts of the car can be easily fixed but the electronics are a problem. That's what worries me the most as eventually repair costs will exceed the value of the car.

On the plus side, a well designed electronic component that has passed an initial period of use will run forever. That's my Christmas wish for everyone who owns a 3er BMW..... May your electronics never fail.

The only issue that I have had with this car, is the known metallic lifter noise that comes with the N52 engine. I have brought this on myself, since I drive the car for just 5 minutes in the morning on my way to the train station and again back home at night. Once you take it out on the road for a nice run, the noise goes away and usually stays away for a little while. Other than that, I have pretty much put zero into this car repair wise, other than the normal wear and tear items.

It's a great car and fun to drive, good luck and welcome.

Congrats on your purchase.

I purchased in March of this year a 2007 328i with only 42k miles. Besides the battery which I replaced earlier this month, I've had no problems with my car.

I had the opportunity to purchase the extended warranty but I turned it down.

I will get a full tune up @60k miles as I don't know what kind of exact maintenance work was done (though I have the Carfax report, etc.).

My next investment is getting a set of tires for my new rims which I just purchased (VMR 705 19's).

After 3 days of ownership...This car is phenomenal! Slashes through the snow, and great gas mileage.

Have never bought an extended warranty but I have purchased two CPO cars from the dealer. Just bought a CPO 2011 335 and very happy to have 3 1/2 years of warranty in front of me. That being said, I just traded in an 07 530xi with 105k in it. The only thing that ever went was the water pump and that was covered by the CPO warranty. Pump went at maybe at 60 or 70k miles. These cars are complex and maintenance isn't cheap but build quality is very high. My 530 still looked and drove like a new car.

An extended warranty will definitely protect you from from the financial hit of a mechanical catastrophe - major transmission or engine failure. I prefer to self insure wherever I can though.

Was able to get a comprehensive bumper to bumper warranty for $2,200 in place of the fidelity gold warranty. Peace of mind
