Hi all,

I am looking for some advice before I go into the dealership tomorrow to look at a 535i GT with 41K miles on it.

The list is $33K. It has Nav, but I'm not sure what other packages it has. Any tips/advice on what I should be looking out for? Also, what do you think about the price?

Looking at bringing them down to $30.

Thanks for your help!

What year is it? It really depends on what packages it has. If it has the four seat package, make sure that's what you want. DHP is a very desirable package on this car. The difference between Comfort+ and Sport is dramatic.

It's got nav, it has 5 seats in the back. It is at a 3rd party dealer, so I am not sure what packages it has (DHP, etc).

That is a low price so it depends greatly on the year. What year is it.

Out of curiousity, why did you sell??? Did you get another GT? Were you happy with the car? Was the warranty up?

My rule-of-thumb is that, in Canada anyway, the asking price of a used car is generally about $2000 over what the dealer paid for it from a wholesaler or at gave for it ar trade-in plus any fixes or work he did for which he wants to charge. That usually gives the negotiation room available. You can offer $30K and see what he counters with. It will depend how eager he is and how much he wants lose or profit by.

Good luck and if you do get it, remember we fellow GT'ers want to see pictures.

Hey guys,

Thanks for your input thus far. '11 BMW 535i GT It's still a bit of a stretch for me, as they are low-balling me on my trade.

I'm really interested in the BMW GT for the uniqueness, and the value. I love the features and the drive. as another option. Being offered the same price for one with 28k miles and fully loaded.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks guys, you are awesome!

I would imagine that you could get this car for $30k...or lower. The sunroof and back up camera are standard on these vehicles. Based on your description, it looks like the car has very, very little, if any options. The miles are average for a 2011. Plus, it is a 535 and not a 550.

One owner is a plus, but that is about it. Nothing too special about this vehicle. Again, based on your description.

I would offer $30k and that would be an out the door price. No way I would pay a dime more.

My opinion is that most used GTs will be one owner vehicles based on their popularity, or lack thereof. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Nobody is standing in line to purchase a GT.

I would imagine that you can call the shots on this purchase because the likelihood of anyone else being interested in an average miles, low optioned GT is nil.

That's what I was thinking. The car has been on the lot for a few months now. I really appreciate y'alls help.

Also, I found a 100,000 mile warranty for a smidge under $5K. Is this right? I read up on other posts on bimmerfest about warrantys but this seemed much!

Neptune was unique to the GT and is now discontinued making it more unique. I assume it has the usual Ivory interior. There's one of these in my town and it's a head turner. That color makes people look.

I think the 2011 was the first year for the 535 but the second year for the 5GT.

In 2011, neither the backup camera nor navigation were standard on the 535...those added about $3K to the base price (I know, because mine is a 2011). In 2012 (I think) those became standard on the 535.

Ernest, I thought the Neptune colour was a nice one (I agree that it is unique) and note that it was featured in the GT brochure (more a 'magazine' actually) that was available from BMW here in Canada when the GT was first introduced. The interior shown was always the Ivory that you indicated but if you look at the listing link that Interested provided earlier, the interior that is shown is black which I like (my interior is black) since I feel it is more forgiving for dirt and grime. (Whenever I head to FL to pick our latest cruise I am always atruck at how clean everyone's vehicle and laugh when I see someone taking a duster to theirs knowing what vehicles look like anywhere 'winter' is 'fully in effect'.

My main concerns are the end cost (looking around 30), the cost of the warranty, and the residual price after I drive it for 3-4 years.

Understood, but it has a great powertrain (engine and transmission) riding on a 7-series short wheel base which is why you noticed such a nice ride. To me that is the best part pf the GT.

I have a 2011 535 GT (with x-drive, I live in Canada after all) that I bought 21 months ago with 2500 miles on it and I paid about double what you are looking at. The only upgrades mine has that yours doesn't is heated rear seats, the Comfort seats in front and a 16-speaker sound system.

Is there any way you can find out about the service record for the 41,000 miles? If it was well cared for while 'in warranty' then any problems should have all been corrected by now. The warranty cost that you indicated seems reasonable for the peace of mind you seek and you may well never use it. Can you find out why it was traded in? Often it is not a function of reliability at all but some other reason for which it was 'changed out' instead of 'dumped'.

You are also looking at a Ford but for many comparing it to a BMW is almost apples vs oranges especially since the GT is not an SUV and was never designed to be. I like it because it is more than a sedan and a little less than an SUV. I came out of an 07 Hyundai Santa Fe and like the GT's cargo carrying capacity. I get nearly that in the GT's 'open hatch and folded seat' configuration. (I have hauled a few loads and impressed those who saw the GT swallow all that cargo). I sit a few inches lower than in the SF but still higher than a sedan. All the GT's intentional design 'compromise' strikes a sweet spot for me that combined with the powertrain and ride as well as the standard features made me forget about getting a loaded BMW X3 in a hurry.

Anyway, food for thought which is what you asked for.

Good luck with your decision.

Ernest, it was in one of Interested's posts last night when I saw it. It was to a listing for the
the Neptune Blue GT at a Lousiana Infiniti dealer. Lots of pictures and a
360 view. I can't find the link now which is why you missed it.

Neptune Blue with a black interior is a wonderful color combo. That's what my previous one was and I quite liked it. Very unique, as I never saw another one like it here in So Cal. Wonder where it is now.... My dealer didn't keep it as a CPO because it had almost 60k miles on it.

If you are new to BMW there is much to get your head around. If you are not dealing with a BMW dealer then that dealer probably has no idea what he is attempting to selling even if it's a Mercedes dealer. The packages are everything. There are audio upgrades, adaptive headlights, packages with soft close doors that also allow you to walk up and open the door without pulling the key out...these types of upgrades can make $10k of difference in value with the blink of an eye. Do you want memory seats on both sides? Do you want 20 way powers sport seats? There are options you have never had that you will now and ever after not be able to live without. The gold BMW extended to 100k on a 535GT is around $4,000. There are extended warranty dealer cost sheets on the e90 forum. Dealers will negotiate. The GT warranty is in the same area of cost as the 7 series. That should tell you something as to the technology engineered into the GT. Good luck. There is much joy found in the ownership of a BMW for most that appreciate what the Germans are doing.
