Tesla 3 series killer Model E coming to Detroit in 2015

”modele”

The Model S fires haven't slowed Tesla down in the development of new models. Their Model E, should be debuted next year at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.

According to Tesla's Chief Designer, Franz von Holzhausen, this 3rd generation platform Model E, 'Leads Tesla to a new level. The car will show what we are about, to build electric cars for the masses.' The Model E be more affordable. It will also utilize the much of the same technology as the S, but wrapped up in a smaller package, to compete with the BMW 3 Series.

Given the flowing design of the Model S, I'm looking forward to seeing what the Model E will look like. One thing is for sure, going by an earlier interview with von Holzhausen, it won't look anything like BMW's i3. You can read about that here.

Tesla seem to have connected the dots on what an EV should look like. The i3 seems to just be too far out there. If Tesla can address the range limits with greater energy density battery packs and keep the pricing reasonable, they could have a hit on their hands.

Contact CSR Racing? Might have issues running the car on public streets, though.

The real Z4 GT3 is (was??) sold by BMW Motorsport.

A used one came up on eBay awhile back asking $445,000

Here is the listing:

BMW should make a limited production street legal version for around 100k base to compete with the GT-R.

I agree that Tesla has connected the dots and could have a hit on their hands 100%. But they're expensive (least here where I live) they're like $90K fully loaded, they're nice-looking and all but not nice enough to be $90K (just an opinion.) And they don't have any in stock so you buy then you get car, theres no test driving it. personally, I wouldn't get a car I can't drive first.

+1.

My guess is that it will be on the upper end of 3/4 series pricing though. I'd love to have the model S but it's damn expensive, even after rebates. The base model starts at 64k

That's a popular fiction. The base model starts at $71,070. Tesla is the only manufacturer of which I am aware that pretends the $7,500 federal tax credit is a discount from the retail price.

Still a few grand less than a base 740i.

A 328i starts at $37,300. Can Tesla match that?? Battery prices are falling.

If the Tesla S is any indication of the performance, this will kick some 2/3/4 series ass. I like the BMW 4GC but I don't want anything larger in proportions than my E46. I've just about given up on a 4door E46esque successor coming from BMW, might as well jump on the EV wave and this might just be the perfect fit for me.

On their website, you can sign up for a test drive. They contact you the next day to set up am appointment. They even make house calls so you don't have to go to them.

Tesla has a service center in Vancouver - are you sure they can't arrange a test drive for you?
