6 Series
The BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations.

08 M6 vert Vs 11 335is coup

Folks, my budget ($40,000) allows me to pick between the following.

2008 M6 vert 35,000 km = $40,000

Or

2011 335is coup loaded 50,000 km= $40,000

I don't have much experience in cars. I drove the M6 and m3 and couldn't tell a different. However I did notice the difference once I drove the 335is

Keep in mind to get the power out of the M6 I had keep raving it high, where the 335is had low torque.

I felt the M6 more spacious than the m3.

Which one would you pick and why ?

Detroit have a decent weather but it does snow here. Would the vert be a problem ? In specific the soft top ? Would the cold air or street noise get in or be heard ?

If you had $40k what would you buy other than those two ?

Thanks

I would pick the '08 M6. Lower miles, more room and more power. My vert was the quietest I have ever been in but still not as quiet as the coupe. And a vert will hold it's value a little better.
I am 6' so a 3 series is was a little small for me. A v-10 will be more expensive to maintain or if you do it yourself, a lot more cramped to work on.
If you are on a limited budget the M6 may not be for you.
Welcome to the madness.

IMO

I wouldnt even consider a 335 if your considering the M6.

I think your 3 series option should be the M3.

This this this!

I haven't driven an M6 yet for a reason... I'd never get out. I pretend my 6 is good enough, well at least until I start shopping for my next one!

For either car you will need a set of snow tires, preferably on dedicated wheels.

Between the two, the M6 will cost more to keep on the road down the road.

In my opinion, any M looks good, only a 6 series looks also good as a non M.
My current 645 is my first BMW and I plan on staying with the 6 series convertible and once it is time to replace my 645 I will be looking for an M6
You definitely need a set of winter tires, I don't drive my car in the winter at all even if it was a coupe I would not drive it in the snow but find a cheap winter car.
If I was in your shoes, I would by the M6 and nothing else.

Your options are simply different purpose cars. What you want is what you will get.

If you want a unique, crazy fast, great looking, attention getting, hair mussing grand tourer... then M6

If you want a practical, fast, stealth, discrete, but classy sporty car, then 335

If you don't know which glove fits you, then you should deal with that first.

On paper, I think the M6 is a better deal as described. Either will cost tons if you need to use BMW service though you may get taken for a ride if they think you are uber rich with the M6. If you can work yourself, neither will be very expensive.

I would say the M6, but the repair cost can be astronomical! If this will be your daily driver, it is going to have a lot of repair cost. I do not think that any extended warranty company, will cover a M6? The M6 will turn a lot of heads, & will be lots of fun! Make the best decision for yourself, & enjoy the one you pick!

Good Luck!
