Ordering an X1- is HK audio upgrade worth it?

I know it's such a subjective question, but what are your thoughts on the HK upgrade? Is it worth the $875 extra for audio?

It's really the only option that I'm not sure about and I'm going to order soon. There isn't a single new xDrive 35i with M Sport in Ohio.

Any helpful comments/suggestions are much appreciated.

I like mine!

If you like your music loud, the HK is a great option as it maintains a good sound
at higher volumes. It also includes a logic 7 surround option, and an EQ.
I would say at least get the HiFi sound system which should be included
in one of the other packages.
If you go bare bones, you'll just end up with the basic system and no subs.

What options are you considering?

There are only 2 audio options in the US, correct? The standard HiFi (which is middle option in Europe) and the Harman Kardon. Am I mistaken?

Thanks

Go for the HK audio upgrade... The normal HIFI just doesnt cut it for me.

Go for it! I picked up my 35 three weeks ago. M sport, ultimate, heated seats and HK. Put a JB4 in it and you will be able to live up to your name.

Go to the dealership and try both and hear for yourself.

I did that and have decided to get it. I brought my usb drive and first listened to the stock one. Then next the HK, same drive, same track, immediately can tell the difference.

It depends how you listen to your music and how important it is for you. The HK price tag can be lower but i think it's not outrageous.

Like others have said, go for the HK if you can swing the extra cost! I would have ordered it, but the X1 I got was sitting on the showroom floor...didn't spec it out. Luckily it had everything on it I wanted minus the HK. Got a great deal so I went with it.

The standard HiFi radio sounds quite good though. Just don't crank it way up...then the bass starts to get muddy. At low to mid volumes though it is MORE than adequate. Also the XM radio sounds like crap no matter what system you have. Stick with Bluetooth, USB, or HD stored music for the best sound.

I have had both systems and I do listen to my music loud. I would not make lack of the HK a "deal-breaker" as the standard system has very good sound with more than adequate bass. I left it off my X1-35i order and have no regrets. The best sounding combination on mine is using an iPod Nano with the BMW iPhone/iPod adapter cable. Sounds better than Sirius by a mile. If you want even more bass, select Bass Enhancer on the iPod.

I had the Harman Kardin on a Mini, it sounded great! I now have an X1 with the standard sound and it sounds really good. If I had speced my car I would have probably gotten the HK. That said the standard sound sounds far better than most cars but the Harman Kardin is even better. If you want top shelf sound, especially the bass, go with the upgrade.

I am very happy with the standard radio. Previous thread on this subject said its also made by HK, just not surround sound and a smaller sub. I normally use the USB feature. Have dozens of my favorite albums loaded onto a flash drive and just put it into random mode. I do not regret not getting the HK upgrade at all.

I think this option is the least bang for the buck on these cars. The X1 is entry level, rather noisy, lots of hard surfaces and let's face it, not a concert hall. It is doubtful that anyone would not buy a well optioned X1 if it did not have the HK. By all means, if $$ is no object, then pay for it. I think that the HK is more suited for the higher end BMW's, where the cost is much less as a percentage of cost.

My X1 35I is loaded with everything except HK.

It's like the AT&T commercial, which is better, good, or better. Better! My guess is few people go with HK and wish they hadn't. Many might go without and wish they had.

Yes the standard sound system is an HK, a very good system for stock with clear sounds, bass, and range. If you need a boomer probably the upgraded HK would be good.

I decided to spend the $895 on audio gear for my home theatre instead of for this upgrade for the car where I can really hear the difference without car and road noise, but this is a budget and utility question. Not worth it to me.

I got the HK and really like it. Everyone's ear is different but I like the "presence" it delivers. I also like the feature, perhaps not exclusive to HK, where you play a CD and it is copied to the hard drive for later selection. As far as the price is concerned, I am leasing, and aggressively negotiated on the price of the added options.

My philosophy: The price of the system, when added to the overall price of the car, spread out over whatever payment option you chose, doesn't make much of a difference on a monthly basis. I like it, and don't regret it.

Think of it this way. It's a relatively cheap upgrade, why not? Porsche's two radio upgrades are the Bose for $3,200 and another one for $5300!
