Looks like it's a new (to the US X1, at least) color. It is currently available on (at least) the X5.

I see it. Looks like BMW realized they don't need two browns, so they've combined Sparkling Bronze and Marrakesh Brown for Sparkling Brown. There's something amusing to me about that name. It's like "Neon Gray" or "Flamboyant Beige." Just sounds wrong. But it looks nice enough in the configurator artwork. My very first vehicle was a similar color, a Datsun B210 that died (without killing me, obviously but miraculously) when a huge Cadillac T-boned it. I also like the new X5's "Mineral Silver," which looks like a twist on the X1's Cashmere Silver.

+1. Status on BMWUSA finally nudged forward today from "Production Ends" to "En Route to the U.S.". I called the 800 number, and found out I'm also on a K-Line vessel, the Columbia Highway, bound for Brunswick, GA. For those of you further back in the process trying to figure out how quickly things are updated these days, the Columbia Highway left BremerhaveN at 8:24 the morning (CET) of 2/14, and the status of my order was updated on bmwusa on 2/18 sometime between 3:00 PM CET and 9:00 PM CET - so about 4 1/2 days.

So, based on my experience and that of bmw_again, Texas-bound cars do often end up bound for Georgia on K Line these days. Interesting. According to the most recent update on K Line's website, the Columbia Highway is projected to arrive at Brunswick on 2/28, so I'm hoping to take delivery the week of March 10, hopefully early in the week.

Good deal! We arrived at the port on 2/13 and hopefully will be loaded on the TOSCA departing Bremerhaven tomorrow. NY is not a K-Line route so I'm 99% sure it will be WWL.

Arrived at the port (Brunswick, GA) yesterday and was released to transport same day. Great timing because BMW started an incentive as of 3/1 for $1500 "build-out cash". I've got a call into my CA to get an ETA for final delivery. Seems like it's been forever.

I really hope the dealership honors the deal we made. It will be hard to walk away at this point, but I'll do it in a heartbeat if they fail to follow through.

Good deal! How are you planning to take advantage of this incentive?

Well, the fine print on bmwusa states:
Quote:
$1,500 Build-Out Cash is a credit against the MSRP of the final purchase, loan or lease on a X1 xDrive35i through March 31, 2014.
...so, my assumption is that it will just be taken as a discount from the purchase price. I have ordered a few accessories (all-weather floor liners and the base support system), but I assume that the build-out cash is not just for accessories?

Just checked and verified that it's also good for 28i:
$1,500 Build-Out Cash is a credit against the MSRP of the final purchase, loan or lease on a X1 xDrive28i through March 31, 2014.

Mine should be arriving in NY at the end of this week so delivery will be shortly after that. I'll keep this in mind. Thanks!

I've signed nothing halfway official looking indicating that we've agreed on pricing (though we supposedly have). All I have is a very back-of-a-napkin document with several scratched out prices, trade-in values, etc. and then a formula with the pricing and trade-in value to which we agreed circled and initialed. I'm told the check will not be deposited unless and until the car comes in and I decide to apply it towards the purchase. After being told that if I placed an order I'd receive a production number and lock in the currently available incentive finance rate, I was told today that the production number may not be available until the car goes into production and that I'd not be able to lock in financing until I take delivery. I was only able to get a gentlemens agreement that if I were unable to get similar financing when the car came in I'd have the option of taking back my deposit and cancelling the purchase.

Am I being cynical in thinking there may be some shenanigans afoot? It just doesn't feel very official at this point.
Just to close the loop on this, I took delivery yesterday. Shenanigans were only afoot to the extent that they tried to slip a couple of dealer fees - specifically a documentary fee and a charge for "vehicle inventory tax" - in on me despite "no dealer fees" being part of our agreement. The tax one was very sneaky in that I was initially just presented a subtotal of "taxes" which turned out to be a combination of sales tax and the bs "vehicle inventory tax" (this has become a common dealer add-on, in Texas anyway, meant to cover the cost of the ad valorem taxes dealers have to pay on inventory. Now, thats a real cost to them, but no more so than the property taxes they pay for the land on which the dealership sits or their monthly utility bill).

Fortunately, I went into the dealership having independently calculated what the (real) taxes plus title and license fees should be, so when the taxes were higher than expected I asked to see an itemized list of the taxes and caught their BS. They kept those two fees in the final contract, but they adjusted the top line price accordingly to offset it (which actually saved me a few bucks in sales tax as those line items aren't subject to sales tax).

Still, end of the day, I got the car I wanted for the price on which we agreed (a few bucks less out the door, actually). It just took a little bit more time, discussion, dealer BS, and sticking to my guns. The deal definitely wasn't "done" at the time I placed my order.

I guess that's SOP in TX...

Glad things worked out for you. I too am skeptical and anticipate a measure of BS when we take delivery.
