radio issue....searched other threads! help?

Hi Folks,

New to the site, but have searched through many threads to find the answer to my query with no success.

I just bought a 2007 X3 with NAV. I'm not looking to upgrade audio, and regular aux input is fine for me right now.

The problem is, I have no choice on NAV menu display for the radio (think its supposed to say DSP).

I get FM stations, and can change them, and they sound fine. If I pop in a CD, it will play and sounds OK, but the MODE button and most other buttons won't work, and there is no equalizer or recognition of iphone through AUX.

From researching past couple of hours, I found out that DSP is the amp in the rear of car. Could it be that DSP is disconnected? If not, how should I diagnose and proceed?

Thanks in advance!

You may not have DSP. It was an option. Do you have the aux jack?

how do I know if it has DSP?

The Aux becomes available when an audio source is plugged in. Plug in the iPhone, do not plug in the charger, press MODE until AUX appears.

It is conceivable someone adjusted the wiring. Do you have factory BT or aftermarket BT?

Yes BT. The reason I ask is that it uses the same connector for aux audio as BT. If you have SOS button you have BT.

It's critical to unplug your charger during this phase of the testing, you didn't specify.

Gently lever off the air vents towards the trunk of the car. You reveal two screws holding the radio. Undo them and it slides out. You will find the connects above. Not that X3 has two X13321. One goes to the glovebox (default) the other is taped to the loom and goes to the trunk for SDARS (SIRIUS). Don't let that distract you unless you have SIRIUS audio issues.

You can dismantle the connector and move the pins as needed using a jewlwer's screwdriver. Again this is only necessary if someone has done a modification to the wiring of X13649.

Locate the vehicle user manual, the phone manual and a pen.

Remove the cover of the amp rack in the trunk by pressing the black button at the top.

Locate the TCU.

Use the pen to write the PIN from the sticker on top on the inside cover of both books.

Return to the front of the car.

Put in the keys, turn on the ignition, start a BT search from your handset within 60S.

when available connect to BMWxxxx. Use the PIN code.

Test the phone audio by using SIRI or making a test call.

OK. I got the BT working. Now I probably have to buy an extra part to stream music?

A2DP is not supported. The connection to the radio is mono. Is the BT audio working correctly? If so it;s time to pull out the radio and check the wiring for aux.

If you want A2DP consider Denison or DICE Mediabridge.

+1 on the DICE MediaBridge. I just installed it last night and it works great.

The only complaint I have is that the radio display stays on sometimes when I shut the car off. It seems to turn off after I walk away, whether it's because it lost connection with my phone or it has a turn-off timer I'm not sure.

The phone mode works great, but I have to figure out a way to wire the microphone to the sunroof control area.

The best part about it is that there is a YouTube video that will guide you through the process, as well as an informative installation guide that's included. It may seem like your modding your car (something I didn't want to do.. stock/OEM is the way to go IMO), but your really just fishing for a set of cables.

If you do go with the DICE MediaBridge, I highly recommend leaving the cables tied up.. For some reason the product ships with a very long cable, as you can see in the video.
