545 active steering rack problem

Hello.

I own Bmw 545i E60 2004 model and there came up a problem with the steering rack. When a specialist took a look at it he said that i needed to buy a new one.

I went on ebay and found a couple of racks, but most of them came off 550 2006 model or 2008 model... I was wondering if active steering rack of bmw e60 from 2006-2008 would fit under my car?

And it would be great if you knew of used and in good condition steering rack to link it on me.

Thanks!

Did you check to see if you have a shop near you that rebuilds racks? In Phoenix I used my favorite body repair shop to point me to a Phoenix hydraulic repair shop that had the knowledge to test and rebuild BMW steering racks. But I am not sure you have enough BWM racks running around Iceland to have the expertise locally.

I would guess the 550 rack would fit your car, but that is only a guess. Again, if RealOEM.com is not conclusive, maybe a body shop can help you sort through the part numbers and tell you if they are compatible parts.

The active steering "pin" or something is broken, it leaks oil and much more, i don't know much about this but the guy who says this is the most specialist in this area in Iceland! He says that it can be fixed, but it will cost a lot of money, and active steering would still be broken.

He said that it would be cheaper to buy used one on ebay.. But we don't find anyone that we know that fits my car unless it costs 2000$..

545 active steering rack problem

Use realoem.com to compare part numbers of the rack for your car vs the year and models you are finding on eBay or wherever.

Or, even easier, you can search realoem.com by part number and it will show you what year and models that part was used on.

Also, if you're buying new, what are you looking for? Look up the part number or call BMW and order it

32106777494 BMW part number

121279230659 first ebay item I found using that BMW part number. Simple as pie
