Panoram roof creaks

Has anyone had continual creaking of the glass sunroof? The dealer advised us it was the
"drain surround" which needed adjusting. btw, "adjustments" aren't covered by warranty after one year. Sounds like a cop out to me....

YUP!!! Mine gives off a sharp cracking type sound during cold weather. Seemed to happen when the X3 was driven over uneven pavement and the body was being flexed. I discovered the sound was coming from the piece of black plastic that runs across the window about midway. I pulled down on the back edge of this strip (seems to be spring loaded) and inserted a very small piece of cardboard. Stopped the noise so I left the cardboard there. I can't see it but in the back seat you can, but I don't care, it's quiet again. I'm sure you can do something prettier. Good luck.

Hi, My 2013 28I just went in for its first oil change/Inspection and I told the service center rep about the Panorama roof creaking and they're response was "it's not reproducible and they have no information as to it being a known issue".this would be pretty dam annoying in an econobox let alone a luxury car.

just the same issue as you had. Mine was fixed as they had a new part which took couple of weeks. First time they put some felt pad and the noise was gone. God knows what they have replaced but I still the black felt tape kind of thing right in that middle black piece you talked about. This work was done under factory warranty.
Looks like this might be an issue with some X3's out there

Same issue. These 'non-diagnosable' noises are main reasons I'm upset w/ ours.

Hmmm.... how cold is it where you are OP?

I had this issue for the entire ownership period of my old Audi Q7 with its huge pano roof during the winter months. So annoying

The creaks come from four things:

1. frozen water/ice in the drain pipes and around the sunroof
2. debris in the mechanism, which causes it to not close completely
3. dried out rubber pieces in the sunroof mechanism (Audi has this special lubricant they use that stops the noise, but needs to be continually applied.)
4. Mechanism out of adjustment.

Good luck trying to diagnose it. It's was a PITA for me.

For some reason, my X5's pano roof has been silent. Zero issues with it.

I have a rattling noise as well. It appears to be coming from a loose black trim strip on the roof. It is driving me nuts! I noticed this strip was not seated well when I was washing the car. I re set it, but it continues to loosen and the rattle is getting worse. Called for service today. They can't give me a loaner until the last week of March. So, I took the entire strip off and most of the rattling has stopped. There are small plastic clips underneath this with a small bolt holding them to the body. These appear to be loose as well. Will try to tighten them and see if it solves the problem. Then I will take it to the dealer and let them waste their time trying to find it.

Been to the dealer twice with the same results. Getting worse. I told them to replace that plastic strips or whatever is making that noise. Need to close the sun shade to mask the noise. Also got some wind noise on the driver side. Getting frustrated.

There is a simple fix... have a look at my other post. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...7&postcount=40

Temperature has been -10c to -20c for the last couple of months and I don't hear a peep out of my roof.

I had the same issue. Once I have noticed it for the first time a quick search on Google demonstrated that that the problem is very common. Talked to the dealer, they did not deny that it was indeed common either I had to wait for a while because the trim specialist was on vacation. Of course I was offered the option not to wait and to have someone else fixing it, but I preferred to wait for the guy to come back. At the end, it is annoying but not as bad as other more serious problems with X3 The problem has been fixed at the end by some felt pads (I believe) glued to some specific locations. The noise is gone but since it is cold I did not have a chance to use the sunroof

creaking in pan sun roof

Yep, I have had the same problem on very cold days. It seemed to correct itself as the vehicle wamed up. Haven't noticed it recently.

Noise from sunroof

I have the same problem and isolated the noise as the plastic trim that goes across the sunroof, same as others, I pull down on it and no more noise. I had brought it in to one dealer who said they fixed it but the noise was still there although not as loud. It usually happens when it is cold or you hit big bumps. I brought my X3 to another dealer who said they also placed felt in strategic places and the noise seems to be gone now. Hopefully this dealer really found the problem!

I had the same issue in my 2012 x3 and took it to the dealer to fix. At first they said it wasn't reproducible so I said "get in". Within 10 seconds it squeaked non stop. He said it has happened before and set screws around the sunroof needed adjustment but are difficult to access ( had to drop the headliner) so I left my x3 another day.

Had it for 2 weeks now and thankfully no noise any more so far...

Mine seems to be silent now although the weather is getting warmer. I glad to see that some are having success at the dealer, it is annoying having to leave the car at the dealer for that and in my case twice, you waste so much time!

Dunno but the felt fix seems kinda temporary. My problem may have been different so set screw adjustment on the sunroof worked. BTW I did call my dealership out on the satisfaction survey for clearly not doing a thorough check on the symptom. One speed bump in the dealer lot was enough to find it.

X3 Pano roof creaks

The recent cold weather has really amplified creaking and hard cracking noises from the sunroof. Took it into the dealer and they replaced the track and all the "felts" but it made no real differrence. It is only really evident on broken pavement in 8 degrees C or less.
Lease is up in a month (getting a new X5 3.5d M Sport) and so not going to worry about it but if I was keeping the car I would be really po'd.
