Even though spring is approaching is it important for me to replace my heater valve ?

Well, if it is leaking, or you are not getting heat when you want it ... why would you not replace it? Is there a reason you'd wait until the next time your windshield is covered in ice and you only then decide you'd like to defrost it?

Unless you have the auxiliary heater fitted (uncommon), the valve has no function other than to supply heated coolant to the driver and passenger side of the heater matrix, , so its not critical if its not working over summer. You may not need to replace it though, they can be re-built if not excessivley corroded, and parts are readily available via ebay
