New z4 owner and i have a issue

I bought a 2004 z4 the Friday from Florida and drove it back to Georgia with no issue you at all. Saturday I Drove the car to movies just casually shifting gears and I believe i blew a head gasket or even worse a cracked block. When I jacked up the car to check it out, there was oil dripping every where. I popped the hood of the car to check the oil and the oil was overflowing coming from out the engine. The car wouldn't turn over at all. is there a way to check if i have a cracked block or and blown head gasket. 2004 z4 2.5i 5speed manual.

Wow! Sorry for such bad luck on just the 2nd day with the Z! When you state oil is "overflowing coming from out the engine" we really need more specifics as to exactly where the oil was coming from. Was it coming out of the oil fill cap? Out of the dip stick? From the area around the oil filter housing? You might have to clean the oil off the engine and then start it up where you look to see where the oil is actually coming from.
How low was the oil when you checked it?
On the cracked block question, that doesn't typically just happen spontaneously. A cracked block usually comes from a thrown rod impacting the interior of the block and causing a fracture that propagates to the outside. Was there any unusual metal impacting metal noises at the time this happened?

Yes that is an Issue. That sucks. Where was the oil coming from? Was the fill cap secure? Oil filter cap secure?

Can't check the oil, there is no dip stick. There was not one on my 04 3.0. Sorry to hear about the problem. Where in Georgia are you, if you are close to Thomasville we got a great Indy shop. European Edge.

Regards

How cold was it? There was an issue with the oil breather (or separator ) freezing up and causing the oil to blow out of the engine as.

Sorry I can't remember the details.. May be some one else knows or you can try a search

You can check using the oil level check on the instrument cluster to get an idea of how much has been vented. Not as direct as having a dip stick but still a data point.

If you are in Atlanta I will recommend Buckhead Motorworks in Sandy Springs. BMW only shop. I have been very happy with them.

Let's hope it was cold weather that froze up your PVC valve.

I am by no means a mechanic and for what it's worth I think if it was the head gasket the engine would turn over but would not fire due to lack of compression. The only way I have ever heard of an engine block cracking was from cold weather with insufficient antifreeze in the cooling system.

I hope it turns out to be a minor issue so you can

Really? My 05 3.0 had a dipstick - it was the same engine as found in zillions of 330i E46's. It was in 2006 BMW went to the no-dipstick engine from the E90 series.

+1

My O4 3.0 had a dipstick as well. I am pretty sure the 2.5 did also.
