I have an old LG 600G flip phone and it works. It just won't show a number of the lists. Last called is there as well as a couple others but a couple are not showing. Address book being one. Other than that it works fine. I like the $15 a month bill.

I was wondering why I need to use a Bluetooth OBD dongle to connect the BMWhat app to my car. My phone already can connect to my BMW's bluetooth without such an Bluetooth OBD dongle.

Looked for a way to send music from the S4 but it did not show the BMW as an available device.

Using the built-in BT for phone calls and a Kinivio BTC450 Bluetooth dongle to connect for music. Not as smooth as having media and phone connected to same BT source, but it works.

UPDATE: Apparently I wasn't waiting long enough. The phonebook did download and I can see all the names and numbers. I can select them with the iDrive knob and click to call; however, if I try to hands free dial, it tells me the phone book is empty. o.O

Makes/Receives Calls?: Yes

Syncs Phonebook?: Yes

I have not yet checked for other features, but based on the model and year of the vehicle, I do not anticipate SMS or BT Audio compatibility. Either way, very happy with overall functionality. Clean call quality and easy to use system.

I do not text much generally, less yet while driving. So I have not tried out the SMS feature.

Voice recognition is better than expected a lot of times, even with foreign names in their respective (i.e., foreign) pronunciation. Sometimes it fails miserably, though, with names that do not strike me as particularly challenging.

Every now and then, the phone fails to connect to the car or takes very long to establish the bluetooth connection. Many minutes, that is.

iPhone 5s.

Looking at realoem parts list for the E60 the TCU comes in 2 versions. One that is CDMA & one that is GSM.

My 04 545i says it has Bluetooth telematics installed but it doesn't show up in idrive. I'm planning to have the dealer or a coder recode the idrive so it works my question is this:

Do I need to update my TCU first b/c it is an 01/15/04 build? and then code it? Or is it worth a try having it coded first? I think I need a GSM version TCU installed for it to work with my iPhone 5s.

The iPhone 5 came out in September 21, 2012. You should upgrade everything to ensure compatibility.

When you say upgrade everything I'm not sure what you mean.

My car already has:

S645A BMW US Radio (standard equip)

Options:
S605A Telematics preparation
S609A Navigation system Professional
S639A Preparation f mobile phone cpl. USA/CDN
S672A CD changer for 6 CDs
S677A HiFi System Professional DSP
S697A DVD Area-Code 1 for DVD
S6UBA Preparation voice input system

That means I should have BT but from what I've read it didn't work in 2004.

But if I buy a new TCU that was mfg after say 06 2008 and install in in place of my TCU and then get my CCC coded for BT phone it should work?

What else needs to be updated or upgraded? I have voice activation and the Mic works.

So I just checked and even though my car was a 01/2004 build my TCU is an 03/2004 unit.

According to the TSB the part number was part of the replacements:

Also the unit in the car appears to be a CDMA unit not GSM.

So I'm going to get a GSM unit used and install. Will see if it works...

My Indy tried to get my current TCU to work. No go.

Ordered one off fleabay. Got it for a decent price. Plan to install & see if it works.

I know i cannot reply to this question in this thread but no option!!!

I think the problem is with Fuel Injectors and spark plugs! How long has it been you replaced them? Not all BMW dealers are good for a out of warranty cars! So make sure you see a good advisor or outside mechanic.
