Brake Squeal

Are any of you having issues with brake squeal? If so, does it go away?

I have 1500 miles on my car and the brakes squeal from time to time. Is this normal? When should I expect it to go away.

I am being told that it is normal and just part of the ownership of an M5. If so, so be it, I will just drive a bit more aggressively to heat up the brakes so it goes away. If not, I want to call their bluff.

If it happens on only a few with the norm being no squeal after x miles, I will call them on it.

Mein Auto: M5, GT550i,
I have been after the dealership for months on this issue. My last visit was two weeks ago and my SA informed me that new / re-engineered brake pads will be released in the next or so.

Search the forums for 'bedding' your brakes.

This is Directly from Hawk pads website, hope this helps.

Bed-in / Burnishing Instructions
After installing new brake pads, make 6-to-10 stops from approximately 30-35 MPH applying moderate pressure.
Make an additional 2-to-3 hard stops from approximately 40-45 MPH.
DO NOT DRAG BRAKES!
Allow at least 15 minutes for the brake system to cool down.
After step 4 is completed, your new Hawk Performance brake pads are ready for use.

I have the same brake squeal with my new M6. I came on this forum to see if anyone with M5s have the same problem. Glad to see the reply that BMW IS WORKING ON THE PROBLEM. But I can't tell from the post when the new pads are to be available. Anyone know?

You left out a word in your response that would help me. The re-engineered pads will be released "in the next ??? Or two". Can you say in the next week/month/ or when? Thanks.

Mein Auto:
I have just got a new 2014 M5 F10 almost at the 1200 mile service
Before that I had a 2012 M5 and I had the squeeling problem they also cracked the compound
My dealership replaced the front pads with BMW competition ones, no more problems
My dealer has told me that new M5s like mine come now as standard with BMW M Sports pads which are Textar s4007 pads
As these are race compound they might produce more noise but if they perform more in keeping with the M5s performance that that is good
I will report on the performance when my car is run in and after a track day

Thanks CharlesHill. Mine have begun to quiet down a bit after a two hundred mile interstate trip. Maybe they are getting seated properly.

Mein Auto:
Just had a track day a couple of weeks ago
No more brake fade
No squealing either just the occasional slight noise
The feel of the brakes are very good on the track and on the road
I call this a good result
I would recommend these pads to anyone with a F10 M5
