Looking for a used reliable 545i-645ci automatic transmission.

I'm not posting this in classifieds, cause I need fastest response. I'm looking to buy a used transmission for my 545i. My current budget will not allow a rebuild, but i will save mine to rebuild later. I need a normal working transmission for under $1200. I have looked at 2 and sellers seem sketchy, so I walked. I want some kind of written warranty 30-60-90 days OR I'd like to see run if possible. This would have to be ready to get seen/picked up tomorrow (Friday) and be from Florida to New England and the states in between. Let me know asap for I am on my way to Georgia tonight to look at one for tomorrow. Also if you know a place that can test it for me out of car in the Georgia area, that'd help too. Note... the urgency is cause I have access to a lift only this weekend through Monday and I have to have this job done before Monday ends.

Check out http://car-part.com, put in your VIN (or year/make model), part your looking for, and sort by distance from zip code (wherever you are). That will search the inventory of local junkyards.

The mechatronics? That doesn't need programming that I know of. Just reset adaptations or let it relearn itself. Never heard of any module programming, but I could be wrong. Ill soon find out though lol

Not the mechatronics . I thought I read something about it somewhere but can't remember which forum it was. Something about if you switch a tranny You have to get the module or electronic component that's for that particular trans I think,,,but not positive .

The EGS? Haven't heard of it needing coding. My friend (BMW tech at local BMW dealer) didn't mention it, when I asked for advice on the swap. I'm not sure though m

Ill soon know. I just brought the mechatronics in and confirmed the mileage on the new to me tranny. It has 88k and no error history. All the seals were in nice shape, but I bought new ones anyway. The solenoids are also good, but I'm throwing my new ones in as well.

curious - how much was the tranny and where did you find it? I'm having some trans issue now too, and been thinking of rebuild or replacement...don't know until I can source the parts and get some pricing.

I bought from private owner (who signed a written 30 day warranty) I'm in CT and drove to GA... was under $1500 then new seals and fluid added a couple more. I did the swap myself. Most salvage yards want over $2k for something over 100k. I found a decent seller with a lower mileage transmission for a decent price. So far its shifted flawlessly.

Try to find a lower mileage transmission, if you're going the used route. Be patient and get some kind of written warranty. 15, 30, 90, 120 days, 6 months, or even a year. Its the only way I felt comfortable buying used. I brought the mechatronics in to an authorized ZF dealer and it was scanned for errors and history, plus mileage verification. Transmission shifts better than ever since I've owned it.
