2004 X5 3.0i front turn signal bulb replacement

My first post, so go easy on me...have been following the forum for a long time and thought I should join.

Here is my issue. Driver's side turn signal bulb needs to be replaced. I watched the videos listed on another post but they don't show/cover the 2004 model with the stupid protruding headlight cover washer jets. Anyway, undid the screws, didn't lose them, but the headlight will not slide out. The bottom part of the plastic lens will not fit through the opening. Not sure if the bumper was ever "whacked" and is slightly out of kilter, but I don't think so.

Do I need to take off the bumper to get the headlight assembly out? Surely no engineer in their right mind would design the bulb replacement to require that step...

Any thoughts? I'll see if removing the entire air filter box might allow me access.

Thanks!

Unfortunately the German engineers do. Yes you have to remove the bumper and then the light assembly in order to change the turn signal bulb.

I changed the light bulb on my 2001 x5 without removing the bumper. First remove the plastic strips underneath the head lights, with a screw driver, then remove the screws behind the headlamp. I remember that one screw is pretty well hidden. It may be frustrating first time but after doing it a few time will be easy. On the left side remove the air filter box, will give more room. My bmw has the headlight washer.

x6cx3 - 2004 have a different front end from 2001.
OP If you read the link above you'll see in post #13 that it is not possible to remove the headlight unit completely in the face-lift models WITHOUT removing the bumper. Before trying anything go buy a load of masking tape and double tape bumper/headlight washers then see if you can finagle the bulb into the turn signal housing. If it were me I'd be putting LED's in there on both sides to make sure I never had to do it again.

Just another example of BMW making sure their $tealers make lots of money.

No need to remove the bumpr, take the 4 screws holding the headlight in and pull the headlight forward, your not going to have a whole lot of access but its enough to twist out the bulb holder and swap a new bulb in.
