Cool New 4.4i sport. New to BMW

Hello everyone. I just picked up this 2002 X5 4.4i Sport for my wife/ our family Vehicle. It has an aftermarket intake filter and exhaust, otherwise i dont know a alot about its history. it has 135K miles and the previous owner was a retired lady that drove it 4,000 miles in 3 years. I am very mechanically inclined and love to work on cars. I do all my own work on our cars, But I have no experience in anything European. Most of my experience in Japanese (mostly subaru) and USDM cars. Im loving the BMW so far, Although it does need a few things fixed.

So far my list looks like this: It needs New Air springs (bags) in the rear, the rear main seal leaks a tiny bit, the right side valve cover seeps a bit, the drivers side cv axle boot is torn and the seat memory control module is bad (no seat memory or steering wheel adjustment)

Otherwise its in excellent shape. Im going to have to replace the cheap Stereo Deck too and fix the shoddy wiring so that all of the speakers work all the time in stead of sporadically.

I do have a few questions. Mainly, how do I reset the features in the on board computer? like when i hit the "bc" button on the turn signal, I get features like MPG, Distance, Date and time. I have not been able to set or reset these readings, and the owners manual seems useless in this area.

Hope this helps: http://dn1.bmwsections.com/dl.php?li..._manual_x5.zip

Pg 83

"To restart calculations
If you continue to press the button in
the turn signal lever, the average values
which were just displayed for fuel
consumption and speed will be recal-
culated from that point. The engine
must be running for this calculation."

Seems ya just press and hold.

Thanks for the reply. I tried that multiple times with no avail. After doing more reading, it seems that I cannot set or reset anything in the obc without the MID that was part of the factory stereo system. The BC button on the turn signal is for display purposes only.

Congrats. You'll be fine, being mechanical incline, with a bimmer.

Thanks. I notice that you have a Dinan E53. What does that entail? Is that a special edition? That's the brand of intake and exhaust that is on mine.
