2014 Z4 Reverse / Door Lockout

Learned recently on my 2014 Z4 with the automatic transmission, that if you open your door while backing up your car, it will automatically stop and go in park until you shut the door. This has been a real pain as I have to back my car into a parking space with a curb on the drivers side. It's a lot easier to open the door to see how close you are to the curb and the rear of the car while backing. If I would have known this first hand, I would have bought a manual transmission. Does anyone know if this control can be over-ridden or completely eliminated??

You may be able to code it out, but I'm not sure. You'd have to check a list of codes to see what's offered. It's a safety feature, so there's no way to stop it in any conventional way. And yes, you should have gotten a manual

Not sure if it's part of a package with the 2014 or standard, part you can set your mirrors to point down when you go into reverse. If you do that, you can get a pretty good view of the curb next to the car while backing up. I think you have to move the mirror selection switch to the right or the left (can't remember which one it is). Don't recall if you have to enable the feature in iDrive.
