Oh jeez, our new 335i. What was I thinking?

What have I done? I had an optometrist appointment this morning, and they dilated my eyes. Been wearing those goofy dark sunglasses. So, it was the height of irresponsibility to stop by the BMW dealer to talk about another 3 series lease. I priced out a build-your-own 335i to my spec.

They had a nice car on the floor with close to my desired options, so I pulled the trigger. This is our 6th 3-series from this dealer, and he gave us $6000 off MSRP list for the loaded 335i if we'd take the on-the-floor model. Payments were reasonable as was the lease factor. (huge bonus is the residual is calculated off the MSRP, so any discount from this is magnified when you lease). Took delivery earlier today.

But wait, It's all black! What was I thinking! I swore I'd never buy another black car. Must have been my dilated eyes. It looked grey in the showroom, I swear My last black 3 was our 2007 E90 335.

Just kidding, of course. I don't mind leasing an all-black car here in the Southwest. Takes a bit of the pressure off not trying to keep the paint showroom-new for many years. Enjoy it for 3 years, and take it back.

M-sport w/ M-sport brakes and exhaust, all the other good options (tech package, premium, driver assistance, cold weather). Damn, those M-spec brakes are huge under those wheels.

Love these 3-series. The 335i scoots along, but honestly, our 328d wagon isn't that far off in terms of off the line acceleration. The diesel 328s are amazing cars. Forget the paper specs, they're plenty peppy. Of course, the wagon is for the Mrs. and I'll daily-drive the 335.

Excuse the completely crappy iPhone quick pix:

Looks like a few of the M-Performance options: Spoiler, exhaust, black kidneys.

The black kidneys look GREAT on black cars (and white ones too) don't they?

Beautiful car. I love the black color and all black is just awesome, mean-looking machine, but will never buy black exterior again after I got the swirls last time I had one.

Nice ride. I swore off black cars years ago and I pulled the same move you did and bought another one recently. Guess I'm a gluten for punishment.

Thanks all. I'm in a love/hate relationship with black cars. I've owned several, and always swear off owning another. Oh well, I never learn.

2 initial impressions on this F30:

1) The M-sport brake feel is fantastic. Really makes a noticeable difference over the standard brakes. Very linear and progressive, super easy to modulate.

2) The steering on the 335i is much heavier and closer to the E90s I've owned, compared to both our 328d and the 328i loaner I just drove. In fact, the similarity to the E90 (in sport mode) is quite close. Very pleased with the more weighted steering feel on F30 335i; almost completely solves what was my biggest complaint on the F30 over the E90.

Sandía BMW is a top-notch dealership. I have always had good experiences in both the sales and the service departments. Congratulations on your new BMW!
