Is there any difference in tire noise with a slightly lower profile, say with 18" wheels?

In another car, I went from 215/55R16 to 235/45R17 and the switch resulted in a quieter tire, in part because the tire was new and had a quiet design. My guess is that changing from 17" to 18" may result in a slightly harsher ride but no difference in noise if the same tire model was used
