Rear Pitman Arms

Had an indy shop to install new rear pitman arms (otherwise known as dogbones) on my 1991 E34 M5 with 107K miles. I noticed the mechanic tightened the bolts with the wheel up in the air but didn't think anything of it until I got home later and read about the proper installation of the pitman arm bolts is that they should be tightened with the wheel/tires on the ground supporting the full weight of the car.

Will this cause premature wear on the pitman arms and what should I do now ? Should I losen the bolts slightly and re-tighten them with the car sitting on the ground ?

This will cause unwanted stress on the pitman arms and they should be tightened with a load on the wheels, however the difference between tightening them preloaded or not at all is so minimal you will not feel any difference in the cars handling or life of the dogbones. If you are a perfectionist and its going to bother you while you sleep at night I would suggest tightening them, otherwise just live with it, your choice.

Hope I helped!!

If those rear pitman arms were tightened with the wheels unloaded up in the air, will I need to tighten them "further" now with the rear wheel loaded on the ground ? Or should I losen the bolts slightly and re-tighten them with the rear wheels sitting on the ground ?
