Car in the Paint Shop, but...

Expected completion date is 4/7 - today. Sounds like there's a little delay with my F30. Not very 'German'.

When you take a tour of the plant in Munich you actually learn that until the meeting of chassis and drive train the chassis are not assigned to a specific car. They just pull the correct body stye and color out of the drying racks and start screwing your things on. So really the website can't track the car in the paint shop because you don't "have" a car yet. The factory could actually accommodate a change in color and body style up until like 24 hours before they actually mate drive train and chassis.

1800 number lags a bit as well, try either a live rep or your CA

My dealer promised me 6 weeks. And it took exactly 6 weeks to get to NY. Production was started one week after the order was placed. I had a German build and the dealer told me 8 weeks for the south African build. I chose German. Not sure what the difference was.

Wow. 6 weeks you are lucky. I've been waiting 5 months for my F32 and I still have no answer on when it will be delivered.

I'm going through a similar experience. Looking at another 4-5 weeks for completion and delivery. A couple extra days at the VPC in NY for PPK installation. Hopefully in my new ride by mid-May!

On the Munich vs South Africa difference, my dealer said they have terrible delays with cars coming from SA. I think they swapped some things around to get a Munich slot. Thankfully.

this does not sound encouraging as my car has been in "order confirmed" status awaiting production for 3 weeks as of this Wed. I was hoping for late May delivery; will probably be lucky to have it late June.

how do you talk to a live rep?

re-Hangman's post
I thought once you car enters production you have a VIN that would be specific to a chassis--or do they put the VIN on later?

Your dealer should be able to tell you what week your car will start production. The build slot is chosen when the order is placed. From there you can add 3-4 weeks for delivery depending on where you live.

U get the VIN right when your dealer places the order. My dealer called me the next day and gave me the VIN. Less than a week later it was in mybmw.com website.

F32 is really hot these days and I guess its hard keeping up with the demand considering the custom orders. I would rather wait a little more than having a somethong that had been rushed to me.

Btw mine was an F30 so I apologize if I got anyone's hopes up.

Just be glad you're on the east coast and once its on the boat your wait is pretty much halfway over. Tracking my ship from Bremerhaven to Port Hueneme was a month long deal.
