Shift Selector Rod... selections??

So I have a 95 m3 and I recently bought the FCPEuro oem bmw short shift kit. It uses the Z3 M roadster shift rod. Ive installed it and im not happy with how it feels. Its very tight but 1,3,5 gears are where neutral was and 2 n 4 are at the very bottom of the shift boot pocket... Ive been looking into replacing my shift selector rod and im wondering if anybody has the same short shift kit with an aftermarket selector rod. The two ive been looking at are the UUC DSSR and the AKG DTM selector rod. Im leaning toward the AKG because I no it will clear the guibo, but I don't know how it will work with a factory shift rod.
