Carbon fiber roof care

Anyone have suggestions on whether to wax the carbon fiber roof on our new M6s? If so, what product would be best? Thanks.

As with any surface on a car, they have all been clear coated. What is underneath, if it be paint, plastic, or carbon fiber makes little difference. So treat it just like the rest of your car, use a good sealant or wax, the difference being wax uses natural occurring substances for protection, where sealant use polymers (I prefer sealants), specifically Black Fire or Chemical Guys.

I also tend to dry wash my car, and Chemical Guys and McGuire's have lots of products to do this with. In the aviation world, it is rare that aircraft are wet washed anymore... I am speaking about higher end aircraft.

Below is a picture after a "dry-wash"...

Thanks, FalconFlyer. I very much appreciate your helpful answers. After reading your response, I understand the significance of your signature. I wonder if you fly corporate, government, or private? Your M6 is as gorgeous as a Falcon 5X. Both fly beautifully, eh?

Hey Sandlapper.... well I have flown several aircraft.... some good... some not so good... just like BMW :-).

When detailing your car just remember P - S - W which mean Polish - Sealant - Wax. They need to be put on in that order. With todays modern sealants, it is really not necessary to wax...

Many thanks, FalconFlyer. I have never gone the sealant route but your M6 really looks great in the photo. I am investigating the products you recommended and will probably try it soon. Thanks again.

Sandlapper & FalconFlyer:

Good question and responses...
For the carbon fiber roof on my 2014 M6 Coupe, I have been using the following product which is one of the few that claim to work very well on carbon fiber:

Chemical Guys JetSeal 109 Super Acrylic Sealant Formula
http://www.autogeek.net/chemical-guys-jetseal-109.html

I have slowly evolved my automobile cleaning and polishing approach over the past 35 years and agree with much of what FalconFlyer says, yet also enjoy continuing the use of some tried & true methods on older vehicles.
FYI - here is a link to another post I started on Bimmerfest last summer that probably goes into way too much detail of the various products I use on my cars, but that you may find interesting and useful.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...859&highlight=

I try to remind myself that while this can be a fair amount of work, for some of us it is also a fun part of our automotive obsession, since most of us prefer to drive a clean, shiny and protected car. Whatever products and method you choose to use, enjoy it and your car...
