BMW orders recall of late model cars and SUVs
Join Date: Aug 2012
BMW is recalling 156,137 vehicles including cars and SUVs. The problem lies with the bolts holding the variable camshaft timing housing. These bolts, in rare cases, may come loose or even break, causing possible stalling and engine damage.
This problem is confined to vehicles powered by N55 engines, produced from 2010-2012.
BMW says it has told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that in rare cases, bolts holding the variable camshaft timing unit housing may come loose or break, causing the engine to go into a "safe mode" where engine performance is very limited to try to prevent damage. If the problem continues, it can lead to stalling, engine damage, and it may not restart.
We will do our best to keep you informed as we receive more information on this recall.
