You need the factory 4 digit code to activate the stereo. I think you can get this from BMW.

You may need the Radio's serial number. Which, unfortunately, is located on the back of the radio itself.

You and I are on the same boat! I need to get an owners manual too. I just bought 98 M3 for 4k. My radio also needs the code, and my interior needs some work. Nice but for 500 bucks.

Congrats on the purchase..

Radio code seems like the least of your problems.. it is easy to acquire however.

You need to check, inspect, and replace (if necessary)..
EVERY FUSE and RELAY on the vehicle.

Then run the codes off the DME, crpss check the codes and see if anything pops up.
Find out if the car was submarined... or has any water damage.

The OBC "check owners manual" display next to shifter is informing you of the issue that needs to be checked.. brake lights etc..

The owners manual for your car is readily available online in PDF form.. just search for it.

Cheers!
