Low speed brake squeal

Picked up my new M6 a couple of weeks ago with 32 miles on it. After taking ownership and at about 100 miles, the brakes squeal when coming to a gentle stop in traffic. So I think maybe the brakes have to break in a bit. It continues even now at 350 miles at slow traffic speed stops.
I write my service manager who says BMWNA is aware of the problem of brake squeal on the M6 brakes but ask me to bring it by for them to have a look.
I searched the M thread to see if others have complained of this problem but find none. Anyone with a 2014 M6 or M6GC have this problem?
Thanks.

On my M5, had the same problem... hopefully will be picking up a new M6 this weekend. Anyhow, wait until you hit 1200 miles, the do a couple of runs to high speed and hammer the brakes to a full stop (do this 2 or 3 times... no more). Squeak will go away from there out

Thanks, Falconflyer. I see on the M5 Bimmerfest where someone had the same complaint with their new M. In response to that post, someone wrote in that BMW has a fix for the problem with newly produced pads. Let's hope so because that would seem to be the solution.

Brake Squealing

I currently have about 7,600 miles on my 2014 M6 Coupe. About 200+ miles ago I started to hear the low level brake squealing as I slowed to about 10-15 mph before coming to a complete stop at a stop light or stop sign. It certainly makes me rather self-conscious...
I will try the high speed / panic breaking routine a couple of times to see if that helps.
In any event, next week when I take the car into my Dealer to swap out my winter wheels/tires for my summer wheels/tires, I will ask them if they can do anything to fix the squeal issue, assuming that it still remains.

Before you try the high speed stuff, maybe this will help. I took the M6 coupe in today to the dealer. My SA told me BMW wants each complaint about M cars brake squeal logged into them before any action is taken. It can take a few hours or a couple of days to get a response. I was lucky today and BMWNA responded with instructions to the dealer in two hours. BMWNA issued instructions to apply a certain paste to the pads and reposition some pins securing the pads or calipers, not real clear on this part. Anyway, I now have the car back and so far my slow stops have been whisper quiet. Taking it to The interstate for a little road trip this week and I am anxious so see if the fix holds.

That is good to know, I pulled the trigger on a M6... I pick it up this weekend, so we will see what happens. I hope I don't have the same issues I had with my M5, specially with the drivetrain noise...

The brake paste is a temporary fix and the squeal will come back. I had that problem on my M6 vert and it was so bad they replaced all the rotors and pads. On my M6 GC with 6k miles, I hear the squeal occasionally but not as bad as it was on my vert.

Thanks. Hopefully the 2014 pads have improved from the prior pads.

Ok here is my 2 cents on this issue.

Brake squeal developed on my new M6 coupe around 8k I'd say miles. I took it into the dealer here in SoCal and they diagnosed it. They said new brake pads were in order. Great, since i know these are high-performance brakes and getting them changed is always a plus.

I went around another 1,000 miles before the squeal came back on the new pads. So....I did some digging around and found that any high-performance brakes such as the ones equipped on our M6's require a process called "bedding" of the brakes. The idea is you reach a high-speed (i.e 70 mph) and slam on the brakes but not coming to a full stop. You repeat this process for about 3-4 times for them to be fully bedded in. Your brakes may start smoking a bit from this process but the squeal will go away and you'll notice better performance when you brake.

I now have my 20" wheels with summer performance tires (Michelin Pilot Sports) back on my M6 coupe, and so far, the break squealing has miraculously disappeared. I wonder for how long....?

Good news. After the car had the interstate trip up to the BMW Performance center, the brakes must have seated for I have had no more issues with them. The sound of silence is just perfect.

I have also got the GC and the squeel has started and beome worse on mine around the 2.2k miles mark. Already done the bedding in sequence helped for a while but now got it booked in with dealers - the squeel is pretty bad. Lets see what they say

Thank you.

I had earlier this year taken my M6 in for regular maint. and noted a squeal in the right front only. Got the 'it's normal' response.

Took it back in this past Wednesday for other regular maint. and again mentioned the squeal, and noted that I had heard that BMWNA was logging this. Got my car back a few hours ago, they replaced rotors, pads and sensors across the front (N/C) and the squeal is gone.

Should also note that I didn't see (hear) the squeal until about 20K miles.

M6 Brake screeching issue

Has anyone been able to resolve the issue with the brakes for the M6 series. I have the coupe and like someone else's post here, as soon as I drove off the lot the brakes squealed. I called BMW sales which gave the same party line he was given, new brakes the screeching should stop eventually. I brought the car in six times, brakes still squeal and i am now at 2500 miles. I took it up the chain to customer service and they still just maintain that this a high powered brake issue.
The screeching brakes prevents me from taking the top down as it is extremely embarrassing when pulling up to stop lights.
This is a huge fault and a huge lemon in my opinion and BMW refuses to do anything about it.

No good news unfortunately - brake squeal started just below 2000 miles and has continued. Have had brake pads cleaned, replaced to no avail. I have found in dry weather the squeal is at it's worst. Made complaints to Bmw customer service giving same crap reply that other then replacing pads they do not have a solution and that does not resolve the problem. I feel for you - the squeal is embarrassing and very loud at times, with the top down must destroy your ears and the driving experience

M6 brake issue

Thanks Zax.
Just horrible especially in a high end car. And I live in California: dry weather point!
The good news: only a two year lease 15 months to go!
Took me many years to get another BMW and I it will be Never before I get another one.
What is so aggravating is that their sales people were aware there was an issue and do not say anything about it which feels completely duplicitous. After being the squeaky wheel, (pun intended) they caved and said they would help me get into another car and offered 2000 dollars
Towards it.
But it will
Still cost
Me
Out of pocket because the M6 is their most expensive car other than the 8.
And that wait list is crazy!

This is my first Bmw went for the GC version loved the car but now all I think about is the squeal- you can imagine how I feel. Your right for such a high end car - you expect the premium product to live to its name - and not to the sound of a bus. 3 yrs for me 6 months are up - going to write another very unhappy email to bmw see what they come back with this.............. I am not sure if this issue occurs with the ceramic brakes - so I'm trying to push for an upgrade on bmw to this, let's just say I'm not holding my breath on this solution

Some other info that may help.

BMW is dividing this into two issues, first a low speed light braking squeal and second a different squeal on moderate to heavy breaking. I've had both, the second is dramatically worse and that's when my dealer replaced rotors/pads/sensors across the front. The first is what they are saying is normal for this type of brakes.

I had the worse second case first, and was told it's normal. When the description to the service department includes 'light braking' I believe they don't look further and just classify it as normal. If your car 'squeals' on heavier braking, make sure they understand that (be pushy).

brakes

Yes we both had the same experience, the louder screech first. they did take it in to "clean the brakes" they claimed they might have the solution. this worked for one day and went right back to it. I asked about swicthing the brakes and they said they couldn't.
Even the service dept was aware of this problem. What I don't understand is how do they sell this car knowing it is faulty.
Trust me I have been a pill, if I had more time I would be more of one!
I was actually looking into suing them which is how I came across this website. i wanted to see if it was a general problem.

Then aggressively contact BMW NA.

The BMW community complained for years about brakes on M cars, they finally come with racing brakes (or close to it, much better performance) and unfortunately squeals on light braking are considered normal. If your dealer won't correct the louder squeal on heavier braking, escalate!

The issue reoccurred with me @ around 14,000 miles. They applied a brake paste to the pads and I've been squeal/squeek free since then - I'm at 18,000 now if you're curious....
