E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

eco, comfort and sport modes

I have a 120d xdrive and wondered what the above modes actually do. Obviously in eco mode it saves fuel but what do comfort and sport do?

I have manual if that helps as I presume on an auto it may adjust the rpm for each change etc

You are correct that with an auto it adjusts the shift points. But regardless of the gearbox in the car, it also adjusts the responsiveness of the throttle.
Eco mode mutes much of the throttle input an keeps the engine from developing much power regardless of how far you push the pedal. Sport mode is the opposite. Comfort mode is somewhere in between.

different modes

Mr bean, thanks for your reply. I wondered if the modes affect other things such as the front rear bias on the xDrive ie more rear in sport and more 50 50 in comfort or is it purely throttle response
