Difficult to do with EWS, unless they flat-bedded it. Did you leave the key in the car?

Are you sure it's stolen?

This happened to me once. Walked back into the house and dialed 6 of the 7 numbers for police (pre 911) before I remembered having too much to drink the night before and taking a cab home!

I can't imagine them being able to drive the car with the EWS activated. Like Ed said, it had to be taken on a flat bed. Even that should have set the alarm off from the motion and vibration.
Please keep us posted.

Thanks and best of luck getting it back in one piece.

Sorry to hear the news... I would keep an eye on the Inland Empire CL for parts or even your car; you'd be surprised how many people find their car and/or car parts listed within days here in SoCal.

That's something I didn't think about.

Also, what about a finance company with keys?

New cars originally come with 2 keys. How long have you had the car and where did you buy it? Do you know anything about the previous owner?

To my knowledge, they came with 5 keys. I have a '99 and I have 5, so there's always a chance that it was a previous owner, unless the old keys were lost.

Or someone who works at the dealer (I doubt it).

More than likely: flat bed.

No witnesses? Do you happen to have a neighbor with security cameras? Loading a flat bed would surely attract a lot of attention. Sounds like some sort of prank.

1+,

It is hard to steal an E39 w/o setting off the alarm.
Ask your kids they pull a prank lol...

I'm sorry to hear that.
Hopefully, it was just towed by a HOA or other authority (as has been the case in the past).

These E39 threads, from folks in similar circumstances, might have recovery ideas for you.

The threads below intimate that four keys come with the bimmer, with up to 6 additional keys being available (for a total of 10 keys per vehicle).

One question. Why would anyone want to steal an e39? There are easier cars to steal that are worth more.

This ^^^

I can't imagine anyone driving the thing off. Even if the doors were unlocked, the steering wheel is still locked (assuming you haven't drilled out that little ball bearing yet), so pulling it out with another car by a strap or chain is still kinda impossible.

Go up and cruise Fontucky and the rest of the "Valley of the Dirt People". I used to live in that dump. They will steal the underwear off your clothesline.

Sorry to hear of your loss. your e39 is worth a lot more in parts then a whole car. I will look out for it here in the Los Angeles area on craigslist also. What color is it.

My first job was sweeping floors at a place that dealt with these kinds of things. You would be surprised how fast 3 men can disessemble an entire car if needed, really strange working at a place so shady, even sweeping felt illegal.
