DIY and How-To

I figured it may help to start indexing some of the DIYs and how-to to help new member navigate the website and hopefully cut down on the repeating questions

I encourage everyone to use this thread to point out relevant DIYs and How-to which I will then collect and update the initial threads: I'm really looking for contribution from everyone to make this useful (I don't want it to be MY thread, hopefully it can become OUR). I recommend everyone to refrain commenting or starting a new DIY here: it's best to comment each DIY in it's original post or by creating a new post for a new DIY. This is just for indexing purpose.

anything DIY pictorials or video on changing engine oil on a X5d?

I've done it many times on my M3, just not sure if there's anything different on an X5, other than the fact the X5 doesn't have 2 drain bolts.

thanks.

Where's the oil change? I thought about doing my own sparks, but it's a V8, so I'm probably going to let my local BMW guy do that.

Thank you. I didn't know that 35d is the same process on my BMW. I'm guessing that is my engine number? I'm a fing nuby when it comes to BMWs.

So, I think I've figured out the 35d. That's the TDI version, which I don't have. I have the 8 cylinder which I'm thinking is the N62? I'd assume the oil change on the gas is different from the diesel. Or would that be wrong too? Hey, that's why I'm here guys. Compeltely new to me.

And if I'm right and I have an N62 engine, now I found the correct oil change procedure. Gracias!

Front brake pads, rotors, sensor, and reset from "AskTheCarExperts". This guy is always very detailed. I followed his videos when I did the cooling system refresh on the E46 and the level of detail was invaluable.
