Lightbulb Stop Light Malfunction

Hi,
I have seen threads about this annoying problem in other forums, specifically for E-46 models.
My E-70 2007 X5 give us this warning of the Left Rear Stop Light Malfunction, but the light still works.
I tried to follow the advice on the E46 forum of installing an additional ground wire, but the layout of the tail lights device is completely different in my E-70, and I am afraid of making a mistake.
Also they show a brown wire as ground and I don't see a brown wire in my car.
The plastic near the stop light socket shows signs of overheating (not fully melted yet).
Has anyone faced the same issue and have found a solution to share? Showing pictures would be great as always, but a good description (for dummies) would work too.

I love this forum, I have found so many helpful tips! Thanks everyone.

When I've seen this I have assumed the cause is the contact getting weak over time, the current arcing and melting the plastic and the plastic then tending to hold the contact away from the bulb/metal- leading to finally an 'open'. To fix it Ive just cleaned up the melted plastic with an exacto, bend the contact to be firmer on the bulb and put it back together.

YMMV
