Extended warranties

Hi folks

Contemplating getting a well optioned 2011-2012 X5 with 3 rows and under 45k mi. Dealers want low 40's for something CPO'd under 100k mi. It seems there may be a chance of getting a non CPO'd unit for low 30's so I am trying to figure out if I can save some $$$ by getting a non-BMW warranty.

One other factor is that I need to keep the car for at least 5 yrs so need to get something that can get me covered until 7 yrs/120k mi.

What is important to me is a full powertrain, AC and electriconics wtty, rental car coverage, and wide acceptance by indy shops and BMW dealers alike across the country. Can care less about the service and tire packages

Can anyone recommend how to pick an aftermarket warranty, where to buy one from, and what do they cost?

Autopom gets good airplay on the 6 series side of the fence.

Oh, sure, I cannot recommend any aftermarket warranty as they are a crap shoot. Prices range from 1000-6000. Price does not strictly correlate with value/quality/risk.

Kostyan, it may matter what fuel type you are targeting. For example, a diesel is relatively reliable vehicle except for emissions related components. But, your state (Maryland) follows California standards that mandate whole emission system be covered by manufacturer up to 70k miles.
The 35i, 35d and 50i each have their specific common failures.
I had the same dilemma when my diesel was about to run out of warranty. In the end, did not purchase any coverage as the stuff I worried the most (emissions) was covered to 70k miles in my state
