Delayed Start - DING

Hi,

2010 X5 E70 35d etc Black (which means i wash it every weekend cause my wife wont)

This morning my wife went to start the car however when she pressed the button (foot on brake etc) the car just made the audio info sound (ding etc) but wouldn't start. She said its done it a few times before however when she tried it a second time the steering wheel adjusted then it started fine.

Any ideas?

Remote battery?
Steering wheel lock?
Foot on brake sensor?

Thanks in advance,
Evan

CLASSIC!

Did she also get annoyed with you for 'grilling her about details"????

This is sounding slightly similar to what I'm chasing down. Very interested to hear what the problem turns out to be.

Back on this... My wife has same thing (coincedence or not, but it happens with wifes mostly...), I've never had this for almost 2 years of driving...).

Need to do some field test, have day off tomorrow so will play with this. So far I've spent some time looking about this over the internet and found few theories about that.
1. Can be the fact that button pressed to quickly after inserting the key.
- Not sure, will try this tomorrow

2. Bad battery in the key
- I did change key battery though as it has 2.5V off 3V. No help.

3. Bad car battery/bad alternator/bad EWS module.
- can't see how it can be if problem for one key only. In case of bad any from that list both key would be affected. Battery is good.

3. Key need to be reprogrammed.
- well, can be this one as I don't have any issue with my key, only with hers. This will be last this as this will be bit on expensive side. Again, it did not help to all reported this issue, just
for few.

Problem is that there's no common things that helps to everybody. It all in random order, this helps to one but not to another...

I will swap the keys with her to check if this is key specific or driver specific.
