just back from the track

great weekend at Summit point. I managed to stay within a couple hundred yards of the Ferrari scuderia! ran down a Porsche GT3, lots of M3's. Managed to hit 132 on the straight away. Going in i had just changed my front pads. Coming out, the computer said i had 3200 miles left on them! Brand new set of Michelin pilot super sports - GONE.

Videos and pics will follow!!
this car just continues to amaze everyone!

About how much of that do you attribute to ARS versus your driving skills? Track day can really be fun . . . and costly. Thanks for sharing.

Seems like your getting good at this. Do you have an auto-weight balancing RWS?

The brake pad wear is just a computer estimate. They may have forgotten to reset it when they switched the pads out. There is a separate mechanical sensor that trips when you really need to change the pads.

thanks i know about the algorithm, and that it is a guess.
after the last track session, i pulled my pads and measured them, I plan on doing that again. last time the front pads were down to 30% thickness. BTW, The second half of the pad goes much quicker on the track than the first half. I will pull them and look.

I really don't think i would try it without the ARS, This car weighs a lot, these turns come fast and hard, there is a 65MPH 180 at the end of the straight, there is an 80mph set of "S's" and the turn coming on to the straight is an 80mph sweeper that you are sliding across the track while trying to stabilize the car for the assault on the straight. You can't afford any wallowing.

Could somebody fill me in on the RWS? That's what I get for being absent from the forums for so many years. I've heard magical things about like increase HP, super braking power, spy gadget like features, etc. Will it work off the track too like putting the kids to sleep, make the car fly, or turning it invisible from traffic enforcement? I'm interested in one . . . just a thought in case the one I'm buying might come with one. Is it serialized?

What's the point? If you don't have it, and know about it, all you'll feel is inadequacy. I don't have it, and wish I'd never heard about it.

It's an inside joke, that I don't get. Some BMWs are not built with the rear window shelf (RWS). Those people that "get the joke" call BMWs without RWS a Kia.

There are an interesting set of folks that post on this board.

I don't have a RWS. I am this shunned by society in general and am forced to live in a leper colony, which is generous.

Sounds like a great day was had. You know I have to ask about the GT3. Did you chase him down in a braking zone or (GASP!) on a straight-away?

I actually ran him down 3 times throughout the weekend. I have a video of 2 of them. I ran him down in the turns and the braking zones. all passing was done on the straights, so I had caught him by the time we entered the straights.

I have been doing a lot of travel and have not had the time to edit the videos and I am sure you guys don't want to watch 30 mins staring into the paddock when I forgot to turn the camera off. will get to it this coming weekend

Let me see what I can do quickly.
I have videos of me chasing the Ferrari Scuderia( she could not get away from me!) running down the GT3 Porsche, and a view from my son's car when the Ferrari (with Him driving) that runs me down, but then can't get away from me! (He could take me on the straight, but I managed to stay within striking distance through the turns, BTW, the Ferrari weighs 2600lbs!)

I don't think so. If you read-up on WJ's posts you would see that he can really drive that thing and that the people he goes up against on the track typically know their stuff. To that point, if it were me that owned the GT3, I wouldn't be taking it to the track unless I could wheel it...that car will kill you under those circumstances (track days) if you aren't experienced with it.

You should want to give that brother the benefit of the doubt.
