Oil under front grill on new X3

Hi,

I saw oil under front grill (both sides of grill) on my new x3 today. I am attaching the image.

Do you guys have any idea, where this oil came from?

Cannot see the picture, but probably grease from shipping.

Shouldn't be from shipping. This was not their 4 days back. Link to picture is updated.

Noticed similar marks as well after washing last week. Not quite as much drippage as you though.

I don't think its motor oil though.. I suspect it's from shipping?

If it is motor oil, you would have notice splashes everywhere under the hood. My guess is that if you trace the drip, it will lead to some sort of hinge or latch.

That's some green grease used in the MFR of some parts of the hood assembly, I think a lot of people have posted the same here.

I had the same thing on my 2014. It stops leaking out after about a month (in my case). Polish or wax removes it. It does appear to be some sort of grease or coating used in manufacture or shipping.

Thanks Guys. Did talk to my dealer today and they mentioned same thing. BMW uses some anti corrosion wax and sometimes it flows out on bumper or near doors.

Cosmoline. Or an equivalent. My '14 did this too. The space between inner and outer layer of the hood is packed with it (along with a lot of other spaces) when the car is shipped.

It will melt and ooze out for the first few weeks and then it's gone.

It washes off.

Yeah, not what you'd expect from a $$$ car, but I had more important things to do (like take my grandson to the zoo) than raise a stink with BMW about
