Window anti trap, again sort of.

Again, see last post.

Hopped in the vehicle for a short run today. I noticed the AC was not working well, then the turn signal quit and the wipers started. All of this with me doing nothing. Checked the status and had two errors pop up, first one was "power window anti trap function disabled", the second was a wiper malfunction. Went back home, shut it off and called roadside assist. They had no idea, only that it should not be driven. Waiting for a tow and off it goes to Motorwerks in Minneapolis. Has any one had anything like this happen? The wipers start and stop by themselves still so I will try to pull the fuse I guess. Very odd, no problems noted in the past seven months, and nothing significant ever.

Thoughts? Oh, still in warranty, 42000 miles.

Edit, did a search and read about some similar issues, but none that seems so encompassing.?

Gremlins indeed! Waiting for to figure out what happened and how to rectify the problems. So far they confirmed them. I was surprised that the roadside assistance communication phone worked where we were, our cell phones do not get service there. Also the call actually went to Allstate insurance.

I thought the same thing. Only thing I can think of is no turn signals. But big deal. Without them you'd be like 50% of the rest of the world who do not understand their function anyway.

trap

i questioned that also, because of the wipers staying on without any control they were concerned about damage to the windshield.

All fixed. Problem was related to lost coding that prevented one body computer to talk to another, or something like that. They do not know why it happened, which is a bit of a worry, but at least it is fixed with minimal hassle on our part. Just have to drive two hundred miles to get it back.

These problems sound all to familiar to me. This is how our problems began, same symptoms, however not all at once... The Little Gremlins !! They said they were fixed then came back again.

Just keep an eye on it.

In the end, after a month or so ours finally crapped out in the driveway and was toast.

BMW will stand behind the product, that's all I can say.

I had a strange things happening too, the last one being the sunroof anti-trap malfunctioned. When I took it in I was asked if the vehicle sat extended periods between use. I do leave it sometimes up to two weeks between drives. They told me the system sucks the battery, even when sitting, and suggested I leave it on a trickle charger, and to lock it, even in the garage, because locking it tells it to put the systems to sleep. So, I have been doing that, and not had any issues since. Not sure if your scenario fits, but if you are leaving it, then that might be part of the problem.

So, the situation described originally has happened again. Or at least very close. This time th e entire car was dead, that meaning that the dash display was blank, nothing else worked either, almost like the battery was disconnected. But, the head lights came on if I pushed the start button, plus the wipers came on. In fact the wipers came on and would not shut off no matter what I did. Also the right side tail lights and front running lights stayed on. The nav/radio display did not function and tailgate lock did not work. I called the local dealer and they told me to disconnect the battery and call BMW Roadside assistance.fyi, the dealer is 120 miles away. Anyway we did that and they showed up three hours lately. It is gone to Motorwerks, have not heard back from them yet. I am curious, has anyone had a complete battery failure, if so, what was it like? I do not believe that was the case for ours. When the flat bed showed up, we hooked the battery back up so we could open the tailgate and get to the tow hook and everything worked properly. No error messages or nothing. Something is really messed up IMHO..

Sorry for your troubles. They didn't have any issues towing your car over 50miles? I thought road side assist would only tow cars for max of 50miles?

Nope, that never came up this time or the previous time.
