Mein Auto: 2001 740i
My first BMW

Ok so after getting an 01 740i for my 16th birthday im hooked on BMW's I abseolutly love them and not only me but all my friends I have the nicest car in my entire high school (and the fastest) and now all my friends are getting BMW's I cant wait for someone who can keep up atleast on the highway anyways yesteray morning I got in my car got down the road and Bam Transmission Failsafe program I read on forums on here it could be LOTS of things including a Bad Transmission which I heard could cost upwards of 6k I hope thats not it but I dont know much about cars let alone BMW's and I just wanted to know if you guys have any Ideas I know its not my Battery Or alternator and It only does it every so often and I hope its not my transmission and if it is I will be looki ng into and 95 e36 m3 but I dont know where to shop other than craigslist which is fairly hit and miss, In the mean time I will be drivin it to school. Wish me luck

I know this will sound simple but you're best bet would be scan it. If you don't have a scanner I believe auto zone will do it for free.

Since you're pretty much new to cars, don't take offense, but how do you know the battery & alternator are OK? The most often source of "Trans Fail Safe" message is a low battery.

Like bmdubya1198 mentioned, get your codes read, and, get your battery & alternator checked out. Even if both were OK just a little while ago, to me it's time to get them checked out again.
