Help steering wheel wont come off

ok so my 98 740il has a peeling 4 spoke steering wheel and i went to replace it and it wouldnt come off. After disconnecting the battery, I started off with removing the 2 torx bits holding in the air bag, then i unplugged the airbag and steering controls, and then i unplugged all those wires that are underneath the steering column, and when i got to the big center bolt it was hand loose. I took the bolt off anyway and the steering wheel should pop off with ease but i was pulling on it so hard the actual wheel started to break down the middle(even the metal) and the steering shaft or something was being pulled with the wheel id say no more that a 1/4 inch. WHY WONT THIS B*TCH COME OFF!!!

Try some penetrating fluid on the shaft that holds the steering wheel (the one the nut was finger tight on) like PB Blaster, and then rock the steering wheel back & forth at the 9 & 3 o'clock positions (&/or the 12 & 6 o'clock positions) until you feel it starting to loosen up, then try pulling it straight out.

The 3-9 rock works usually but leave the nut on with a 1/4" gap above the wheel. That way you don't smack yourself on the nose with it when it breaks free.

Well the thing was stuck on there so good, that the metal plate that secures the airbag cracked in half before it gave the slightest shimmy off the steering shaft. so i just cut that thing off. done. but now my steering wheel controls do not work anymore and all the plugs are connected. its the same buttons and airbag from the wheel i cut off on a different 4 spoke oem steering wheel. what could be causing the buttons not to work?

wait...does anyone have a picture of their e38 steering wheel with the airbag removed? i think it has something to do with the grounding wire. The new wheel and slip ring i dont think had one on there and my old wheel is LONG GONE (i got mad at it so i threw it and shot it and burnt it and tossed it away)
