2004 X5 4.4 Transmission

I just got a new X5 4.4 (2004) after 350 miles the sevice engine light came on. I called my sales guy and he said don't worry about it, probably just a gas cap fume leak. I did not hesitate and brought the car right in. It turns out the tourque converter was shot. My car know needs a whole new transmission. Has anyone had similar problems and if so after the corrections have any other problems shown up related or unrelated to the tranny?
After replacing the transmission on this new car there are know electrical problems, the transmission can not communicate with the engine. The problem with getting new transmissions with the 2004's is you do not know if it is new or refabricated. Problems , problems problems.... day 8.

Most failures in vehicles happen in the first 2000 miles - these are generally component or assembly failures. If it lasts 2000 miles, it will generally last 50,000!

My '98 328i had a new transmission installed at one month old. Scared me to death at the time, but it never bothered me again. Don't worry about your X5, it should be fine.

Just picked up a '04, 4.4 (9,800 miles) over the weekend. Great car, but I notice whenever the vehicle comes to a stop that the transmission "hops" a little. The feeling is almost like the transmission still wants to move and I have to step on the brake a little harder to stop it.

Anyone with the same experience?

Sounds like your transmission is just down shifting. I only notice it when I put it in sports mode (S). Normal driving mode (D) is less noticeable.

Ok, now that I had the car for a week I can't figure out if it's the brakes or transmission. Whenever I come to a stop, either I have to press a little harder on the brakes to compesate the transmission or just let it hop forward.

When I step on the brakes a little harder, to avoid the transmission deal, the car tends to rock back and forth from the brakes clamping too hard I guess.

If I just stop as usual, the tranmission seems to take that extra second to downshift? A feeling I can only describe as if someone from behind bumped me lightly.

Anyone else have this problem, I'm just wondering if it's the brakes that are bad or is it the transmission. I know if I ask the same questions at the dealer, all I'll get is faces all around.
