X5 & X3 Sales YTD, from the Fwiw Dept...
Strictly from the Fwiw Dept.:
-X5 units sales Sept YTD vs. '03 YTD, down 13.4% or 3,700 units behind LYTD. -X5 4.4 motored car is holding semi-steady from previous years, except when compared to its heyday of MY 2001: they pumped out 12,000 4.4s that year vs. the annualized 7,000 this year and previous years. -On track to sell about 900-1000 4.8s this yr. -X3s are rolling out the door: should do 33-35,000 units in '04. Will be a close race between new X3 and X5 for most units in '04. -X Car group on track to sell more than 65,000 units in '04, vs. 28K units, but increase is only due to new model X3 sales. Data from Fred Meloan's link: http://myfilelocker.comcast.net/fdme...ries_Sales.pdf Wonder if BMWMutha is hindsighting the Euro mfg'ng vs. building the X3 here in SC? I see X5s frequently...I have seen a dozenish of those 49,000+ X3s on the road. I must be sleeping at the wheel...and, no dis to X3 owners. I like 'em, the car that is. ![]() BR, md TheOl'Guy

The only X3s I see around here are the loaner cars from the local dealers...have only seen one so far owned privately...

Other than mine, there are no X3s here that I have ever seen. I have seen a few dozen X5s -- due to them all popping up in the last year I would guess off-lease.
Make X3 ownership a little more fun imo.

Now if you combine both the X3 and X5 sales then it could be some 65-70,000 units in the USA in 2004.

Want an insiders perspective on the dip in X5 sales? No one has them! Well, it's not that bad, but many dealers were sold out last month, and others had limited inventory. Compare this to last year, when we all had an abundance of stock, as well as incentives to move them in preparation for the facelifted 2004, and you can see why sales are off a bit. The X5 isn't getting soft yet, in fact it is still one of our strongest products to date. We normally track our gross profits in four different groups: new car, X5, X3, and used cars; and the X5s have overall been our highest-profit vehicles (since cars like 545s and 645s are averaged into the new car category).
BMW's not complaining either-- they're a very profitable vehicle for BMW as well. Last edited by SARAFIL; 10-01-2004 at 03:00 PM. |

I stand corrected...
Quote:
(Doubt the X5 will Ever retake sales vol. lead over X3; too much comp., people turned off a bit by the $8-10G 4.4 price diff, etc.) I realized there were no X3 sales after doing some gosintas, but failed to knock off that LYTD/X3 line. You are correct: that 65K units is both X3 and X5 combined. Not usually this sloppy on sales #s...I blame it on theMissus forcing me to help her clean house, and doing that post on and mostly off, for an hour, during my domestic "helping"! Thanks for catching my faulty arith. BR,md
