This is correct. That is why I opted for steel roof. There have been reports of success with Yakima Q-towers and the Q-clips that will fit a 3 series touring (Q131 and Q56). However, I am just passing along info I have seen elsewhere.

Let's be honest here. Would any of you really notice the difference with or without the roof?

It's personal preference no right or wrong answer here.

I'd probably have gotten the sunroof even if it was a paid option.

CF has the anchors for roof racks - see below photo

As a slightly miffed owner of a CF M3, I can attest that the latches are utterly useless and that there is no mounting hardware underneath. Please see http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=911294

To the OP, if you want to carry bikes/surfboards on the roof, you have to order the metal roof. A tow hitch is not an option as well because of the muffler geometry.

Considering the car is already a touch over 3600lbs, I'll take any weight savings I can get. Most may not be able to tell the center of gravity is lower, but you can most certainly tell overall weight.

I test drove a CF roof and the difference is negligible. Outside of professional racing, I seriously doubt it makes a noticeable difference. Perhaps a few more HP though right?!

Sunroofs suck
1) After time they have a tendency to fail and start leaking
2) THe wind noise is atrocious. Heck, convertible is way better on the wind noise. I had sunroof on my 2006 330 and 2013 335. We rarely opened it because of the noise. In fact, I only opened it to help vent the car on a hot day
3) On really hot days, I would rather have AC than the hot sun, humid air, and bugs

Carbon fiber is the best way to go for these cars. It will also help the resale.

I think it's a non-issue in resale given the impact in base price either way. I'm also not a "drive it or save miles for the next owner" kind of guy.

I think the CF is better at heat rejection as well. My wife's car is White Pearl and mine is Azurite Black. Mine is always cooler when left out.

Now with the CP bucket seats and the CF roof, I have no issues, so much more clearance. Carbon roofs for the vertically challenged.
Very late to reply to this, but it is important. Anyone over 6' who has intention to drive the car with helmet should probably get CF roof. If you are 6'2" or higher, there is absolutely no question about it - you will not fit with helmet and sunroof.

Driving my E92 with helmet was not as much fun as it would have been without sunroof. I could not drive that car seated properly. What difference it makes now to be able to blast around the track seated properly with enough headroom!

All that said, I also agree with Furby. Not much utility for that sunroof, either. I do not remember EVER opening that thing. Hot car ventilates well (or better) with both windows down - at least coupe did.
