What would you do if your paint was cut by Llumar

I have a 2017 MW M3 with only 650 miles on it. Like my last car i wanted PPF installed on all of the high impact areas. I talked to a local place who did a great job on my windows about doing PPF. He didn't have anyone at his shop that could do it, so he said he could get the Llumar Rep/ trainer to come in from Dallas to do it. So the Llumar rep came and spent 12 hrs on the car. Long story short it was the worst PPF job i'd ever seen. Stevie Wonder could've done better. The merchant gave me a full refund which i was happy about. So looking on the forums I found a place in Dallas that was highly recommended. Upon arrival they washed the car and started steaming the old PPF off. When they got the rear arches I heard one of the guys say oh S@$T and he asked me to walk over. Both sides of the wheel arches have been cut down to the bare metal where the Llumar rep trimmed the PPF on the car. The cuts are about 8" long. I had planned on the new PPF covering the whole arch all the way back to the bumper. Due to the scratch I had the Dallas shop stop the new film right on top of the cut to try to hide and protect the bare metal.

I spoke with Llumar in Ontario CA and the first thing they offered was a "paint correction company" in Dallas do the repair. You usually see these guys in the parking lots of dealerships with airbrushes doing touch ups. I wasn't pleased with that option. Today they told me to take the car to Dallas (which is 1.5hrs away from me) and leave it with some no name body shop and they'd do all the repairs and would also pay for a rental car. I know nothing of this shop, or the quality they turn out. My problem with painting the car is, they'll have to paint up into the roof, rear doors and rear quarter panels to blend the mineral white. Then I'll have car fax on my car due to the
paint and body work which will devalue my car. Plus any paint job done other than the factory looks like trash. What I want is to trade the car in on another new and let them pay the loss between the two. I'm OCD and a perfectionist so I'm looking for a win win solution here. Thanks for any input you guys have.

This is awful. I don't know how you can fix that without a repaint and consequences of the repaint.

Always look for authorized 3M installers.

wow so sorry to hear what they had done i cant get my head around why they would cut the film on the rear quarter, usually its one piece.
i am in the same boat as you with regards to being a perfectionist with things, i had a non licensed driver tap the back of my car, luckily not
much damage just a bit of paint removable. Any how had the BMW authorized paint shop paint the bumper 3 times until i was happy with
the finished result.
i would stick to your guns, trade the car in and get them to pay the difference. no one wants a painted car especially both rear quarters.
i am still shaking my head how some one can do this, the film is 8 mm`s thick and you only cut half way through the film and tear the rest
this is dependent on the type of film. so messed up.

Let me help you with the benefit of experience.

I had a high hit collision with a truck backing up which required a new hood. It went to my insurance company's recommended shop - was returned like new!

Beautiful job. And it stayed that way....for 2 years. Then it began to crack & craze. Yep, needs the whole hood re-done.

Words t'the wise.

Thanks for the replies. I think what I'm going to shoot for is to trade the car in and let them pay the difference in loss. So far the estimates I've received have been $5-$7,000. They have to paint a larger area to try and blend. The problem with MW is it's 3 different coats. Base coat, pearl coat and a tinted clear coat. So the only way for a perfect match is to get all 3 colors exactly right. That's not gonna happen. I probably have a better chance wining the lottery!

We agreed on an amount that covered the highest estimate. For me to get a new car, I would've had to kick in another $7k in addition to what they were giving me.

Next time a 3M Preferred or Certified installer with 3M PPF and insist on them using 3M Knifeless Tape. A blade is never used on the car that way.
