I have this issue that seems to randomly occur on my 2006 750Li 70K miles
When I was on the express way, I went to pick up speed and if felt like the car held back a bit, then all of a sudden a boost of power and it felt like someone rear ended me, but it was just a boost of power from the car. But its strong enough to make you jerk in your seat. No fault code or anything though.
I took it in to the dealer, where I was told the Battery could be the issue, well now that the battery has been replaced where do I go from here??
I don’t want to get hit with another $140.00 to Diag the vehicle once again, especially when they had the vehicle for plenty of time to figure it out the first time.
Any suggestions ???
There is something going on with my vehicle as I don’t believe this is normal behavior. I cannot duplicate it , as it happens randomly. But it does happen when I’m picking up serious speed like on the eway.
nothing. But there are a lot of threads on the e60 about hard shifting. Still has the same effect... may prevent me from upgrading to a new bimmer.. ticks me off that much!
My effect is this, push down on the gas, feels like it is doing nothing, then a quick jolt, enough to spill a drink in your hand. It feels like it is trying to accelerate in the higher gear and then it realizes it needs to drop down and it does it too quickly (or two slowly) and the result is a high RPM gear drop.
Yep, thats the same crap mines doing, I have like 30k left on the warranty. and I sure wish something would happen sooner than later. Im gonna keep taking it back til they find the issue, Im starting a nice paper trail.
Yea, I hit it hard for about 10 months, and remind them ever time I am in. I am trying to collect some more insight from the boards to help the case. looks like some get the trans replaced.
Tranny!!! Again and again
It's written everywhere:
Mechatronik adapter (square gasket) gets old and looses oil pressure!!
If you drive like this you'll kill your tranny pretty quick and it does not matter how low your miles are what matters is how old

Your car has a problem with 2 things that added together give that feeling that you are describing.
1. Failure of the Guibo Joint -> This joint is a flexible disk that connects the back wheels and the transmission together. It's designed to flex slightly and absorb the shock of shifts. When this fails it causes a rougher shift and doesn't help that rear ended feeling.
2. The second problem you are having is with the Torque converter system. The Torque converter "engages" the wheels of the car to the motor and what is happening is when the car switches to a lower gear, the torque converter momentarily keep everything engage producing a very hard jolt. The Guibo is meant to cover up a little bit of this, but it should never get that severe to where you feel like you've been rear-ended.
- This can be caused by a few things:
1. A bad sensor in the transmission -> Any of the many sensors malfunctioning (particularly the ones that determine fluid pressures)
2. A bad gasket/seal in one of the lines/areas that are pressurized. This can cause too much or too little fluid to enter at any given time and cause the torque converter to malfunction. (Look into mechanatronics seal/ sealing sleeve)
3. Low transmission Fluid
4. Bad or failing torque converter.
It's best to let someone look into all of those possible causes and follow the checklist in the service manual to rule other things out. My transmission used to do that only when shifting into first gear, and then over time it got worse until the car would do that with any downshift. That's when the dealer drove my car and it failed completely, and a new transmission and torque converter (1 piece when ordered from BMW) with all the new sensors attached and such were installed.
Mine does this as well but usually in sport mode... its when I slow down and its like the car almost hits neutral then jumps into gear and feels like someone rear ends me.. this car has became a nightmare... Hopefully BMW will cover whatever it is on their 100k warentee...
Pathetic that their tranny's can't last beyond 100k miles. My friends range just had a tranny replaced at 79k miles. Same BMW tranny my car has. Pathetic. Just waiting for the day when mine goes out. My tranny thumps when switching from r to d. Had guibo checked. Was fine. I have 3 years of warranty left to hopefully catch that and maybe add new life to the constant repair it needs.
The true known fix repair is complete trans. replacement. This is the park and go feature of trans, as trans wear it becomes worse. All ZF trans. do this is just not BMW. You try changing fluid, filter, guibo and reflashed EGS and clear adapt. it may make it feel better or fix temporary
Happened to me once again today, and It threw the Transmission fault code on. Which is good as Bimmer kept telling me without a fault code nothing is really going to be found unless it something completely obvious. Have the car back at the dealership they are already hinting at a new trans. I hope to hear some good news tomorrow , stating the trans needs to be replaced and that its covered. Awesome way to start 2013 if that is in fact the case.
