I have extended maintenance, but am out of warranty. I do believe I am the first 335d tune by Mach V.

Have you conjured a way to measure the delta, or will you be reporting using the so-called "butt dyno"? Whatever method I will be keen to hear.
Did you talk to Dan about what he would charge for a re-flash? That probably won't be relevant for you, but it might be for me because I have only 10k on the odometer. |

I would also be interested to hear what a reflash will cost. I've had the Evolve tune for several months, and have had to reflash once already due to the EGR and associated updates. I was using VS Motorsports, but that ship has sailed, obviously. To your question about the Evolve tune, I haven't dynoed, but the improvement is noticeable, and, at least with my car, the driveability was markedly improved. I would highly recommend the Evolve tune to anyone, as long as they understand the need to pull the DDE for the initial tune install, as well as subsequent reflashes if needed. Money well spent.

I have before data from my G-meter, so I can do a a comparison.
I haven't asked Dan what a reflash costs. If your ECU has the port on the heatsink side like mine, I'd expect the reflash to cost more than the $95 VS Motorsport charged. |

Reflash
Actually, at the risk of appearing totally disingenuous, I do know how much Dan said he would charge for a reflash. I was just curious if the number had changed. It was just about the same as what was just said about the VS Motorsports cost. I had asked him all these things when I talked to him originally. I am having a considerable amount of suspension work done in 2-3 weeks, and my second major goal was going to be a JBD, but now am toying again with the idea of a real tune job. Decisions, decisions.
![]() Am just a bit worried about the warranty issue. Perhaps unnecessarily. |

Decisionas are made every day and People mess up, your choice of either going JBD or Flash is something you must dwell on and base yourself in which one is fit for you. I for one have been using the BENCH flash from RENNtech NEVER failed on both cars (02 MCS and 335d). Piggybacks a la JBD are good but if you ask most of whom use it they say its the best bang for the buck. Terry does an exceptional job but this cannot be compared to a flash either done by RENNtech or any other Flasher out there, you pay money but but you get the best of your vehicle not to underestimate JB. Its a hard choice but Id take the flash before a piggyback. I am at 307 whp with RENNtech and planning to add the WAGNER IC either today or tomorrow and then dyno and provide info in a new THREAD in all forums I am in, so amigo the ball is in your court and honestly I wish you the best of luck in deciding who venue you take and the best of all enjoy it!!!! Like most of us are!!!
P.D> If you are risky guy like SOME of us here go for it, but if you worry about warranty issues then forgetabout it Capiche!!

I looked at three options, being out of the warranty period. JBD, Evolve and RENNtech. I eliminated RENNtech due to cost. RENNtech has a great reputation, but so does Evolve. I chose Evolve over JBD due to Evolve's claim that their tune improves fuel economy by 10%. JBD has no positive effect on fuel economy in normal driving. If Evolve's claim proves true, it will be cheaper in the long term than JBD. There is little doubt that JBD is the most bang for the initial investment $ and there is the warranty issue with Evolve and RENNtech.

I got the ECU back on saturday and installed it. Seat of the pants dyno indicates a significant increase in horsepower and torque. I'm very glad I installed the Quaife. In my commute, it behaves just like it did before the flash except that, if you press the go pedal to squirt through a hole in traffic, you find yourself going 90 mph instead of 80.

I made one run today with a poor start. 13.83@100.7 in the 1/4, That is an improvement over pre-evolve of .52 seconds and 4.4 mph on a run with a great start. Rolling improvements, which shouldn't be affected by a poor start, of .25 sec. in 30 to 50, .33 sec. 50 to 70 and .63 secs in 50 to 80.

Let me get in another couple of runs with a good start, I feel like I can shave off a couple of tenths and add a couple of mph. Off the line is going to be traction limited. Needed more before Evolve and still do.
Once rolling, it is faster across the board. The power band is so broad and relatively flat that the car is simply faster by every measure. Definitely worth the money. I've spent thousands on cars to get 1/4 the benefit of the $800 evolve tune. |

It's $800 now?!
Edit.. I see this on first page upon re reading, is this a price jump from vs?
