Thanks Melquin. I've seen a few shops listed in these directories (http://www.bimrs.org/ and http://www.bimmershops.com/). The problem is that looking on their websites it is impossible to tell what they do. Their websites list, in the best case, all european makes and in the worst case, all makes (including lawn mowers) which they service. While that by itself does not automatically disqualify these shops from being "good", it does not inspire confidence in their work and honesty.
I'm hoping for the wisdom of the crowd here. Personally, in my home area, I can recommend AND stand by two independent shops as I trust them with any of my cars.
They serviced and repaired my neighbors cars BMW, friends GT3 in highschool, and another friends S4. I never had a German car when I grew up in the area or was old enough to drive so no personal experiance but they did great work and have a good reputation. Haven't been around there for a couple years so there is the possibility for things to change.
